7 Days To Dieis a rather complex game, with lots of hidden mechanics that work away in the background. While players can choose the difficulty level, even on the easiest settings, surviving in this game can be a challenge. Provided the player is using the normal settings, then they will come face to face with abig horde of zombiesevery 7 days (in-game time).

The zombies are fast, hard-hitting, and relentless. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by the seemingly endless waves of enemies during a Blood Moon. However, there are a few things that players can do to survive the first Blood Moon in 7 Days To Die.

Firing Arrows At A Big Zombie

Have Plenty Of Ammunition

When it comes to the Blood Moon, you can never have too much ammunition. Whether it’s bullets or arrows, you’ll need as much as you can find to keep the zombies at bay. For the first Blood Moon, you may find that you have a very limited number of bullets. Thankfully, arrows are cheap and easy to craft. So, bulk craft as many arrows as you can to help carry you through the night.

Always try to aim for the head. Even if you have a low-level bow with basic arrows,a well-placed headshot can take down a zombie with just a single shot. The best practice is to usher the zombies into a long narrow walkway or corridor. That way, you are unlikely to miss as the zombies will all be bunched up together.

Fighting A Zombie With A Spear

Have Multiple Weapons Ready For Action

During the early days, you may struggle to findgreat weapons In7 Days to Die. However, even if you’re able to only craft the basics,it’s worth having one of each weapon type ready for action.By having a club, spear, bow, and a knife in your inventory, you can switch through weapons quickly, which can help you to survive the night.

The bow is perfect for hitting zombies from a distance, the spear can help to keep zombies from getting close enough to hit you, the club is good for hard hitting headshots, and the knife is great for close quarter combat. So, if you have all of the possible weapon types ready for use, then you have something for all types of combat.

A Well-Placed Hatch

Hatches Can Be A Life Saver

While they aren’t as useful as they were in the previous versions of the game, hatches are quite good at slowing down zombies.Hatches won’t stop the zombies for long, but if you have a couple of hatches placed down in a narrow corridor, then they can keep the zombies at bay long enough for you to pick a few of them off with a ranged weapon.

Also, if you have enough materials, it’s possible to repair the hatches to prevent them from being destroyed by the zombies. Just be sure to have an axe in your toolbar so you can switch between hitting zombies and repairing hatches quickly.

Construction Zombie Breaking A Door

Understanding Zombie AI Is Critical

Zombies will always take the path of least resistance when trying to get to you.You can use this information to your advantage. If you haveset up a base inside a pre-existing building, then the zombies will attempt to break down the door to get to you since it’s the most direct path. Because of this, you can line the path with spikes and hatches to slow them down.

It’s also important to keep in mind that if there’s no direct path, the zombies will try to break down your base to get to you.

Hiding In A Hut

If you decide to hop onto the roof of a building and take away all the ladders, then the zombies will try to break down walls to bring the building crashing down.

Hiding Doesn’t Help During A Blood Moon

On a normal night, you can tuck yourself away and hide from any zombies that may wander by. This won’t work on horde nights. During a Blood Moon, the zombies will automatically know where you are at all times, so there’s no point in trying to hide.

While you should definitely pick a place that is well-fortified to stay in, you will need to fend off the zombies as they will hunt you relentlessly. If you really want to hide, then you may be able to get away with hiding out in an underground base. However, this isn’t a great idea, because even if the zombies don’t get close enough to kill you, they can cause significant amounts of damage to your base.

A Player’s Inventory

Carry Repair Equipment To Fix Fortifications On The Fly

As mentioned above when detailing the usefulness of hatches, it’s a good idea to repair things as you go. If you can repair walls, doors, and hatches regularly, then the zombies won’t be able to break them down. Not only that, butyour weapons will need repairing pretty regularly during horde nights.

If your weapons break, and you’ve got no means of fixing them, then you are unlikely to survive the night.

A Sturdy House

It’s always worth havingsome of the essential resourceslike plant fibers, wood, stone, and iron on you during horde nights to help keep things running smoothly.

Build A Structurally Sound Base

Thebuilding mechanics in7 Days To Dieare actually fairly complex. To withstand an attack, your base will need to be structurally sound.Zombies will naturally target weak points. So, if you decide to build a base that is only anchored to the ground in one place, then the zombies will head straight for that piece and bring your whole base crashing down.

It’s important to build a base that can still function even if it is partially destroyed by enemy attacks. A base should be anchored to the floor in multiple places. Also, when it comes to upgrading blocks, always upgrade your support blocks first. Upgrading a block will increase its weight. If you decide to upgrade your roof before you upgrade your support blocks, then you may end up accidentally destroying your base.

Riding A Bike

Have A Plan B For When Things Go South

Even if you have 100% confidence in your base, it’s always a good idea to have a back-up plan if things go wrong. If the zombies make their way inside your base, and you’ve got no way out, then you’ll get devoured pretty quickly.

Whether you have a hay bale at the back of your base that you’re able to jump onto during emergencies, or an underground escape tunnel to take you to another location, having a plan B is crucial for survival. It’s also a good idea to have a backup location in mind. If you need to make a hasty escape from your main horde base, you’ll need to have somewhere to run to.

A Bandage in 7 Days To Die

Keep Food And Aid Items On Your Toolbar

Bandages, meds, food, and drinks are all crucial things that you’ll need to have access to at all times. Having quick access to meds and consumables during horde nights is especially important. If you are unlucky, you may end up with an injury that can slow you down. Since zombies run pretty fast at night,it’s important that you are in peak physical condition.

As most players will know, if you are hungry or thirsty, then you will receive stamina and health penalties. These can slow down your effectiveness in combat. So, attempt to keep yourself well-fed and ready for action.
