WhileThe Casting of Frank Stoneis set to emulate Supermassive’s most successful interactive horror titles, the title need not be the only product of their partnership.
Dead by Daylight’s playable characters draw from a host of original designs and legendary crossovers, which, after seven years of operation, offer a formidable amount of options on both sides of the knife. With its first foray into interactive horror soon to arrive, the franchise is set to draw in a fresh community of players, opening the door to a new realm of crossovers and promotional events.
Supermassive’s Library of Games Features a Host of Compelling Killers and Survivors
Despite working on games since 2008, Supermassive Games truly broke into the gaming scene with 2015’s horrifyingUntil Dawn, which introduced players to the studio’s trademarkinteractive storytelling.Until Dawnsucceeded in nearly every way, thanks to the writing of its characters, a compelling story arc, and the various forms of horror introduced during the game’s runtime.
This success saw Supermassive emulate the formula across various titles and series, includingThe QuarryandThe Dark Pictures Anthology. While not every title succeeded in recapturingUntil Dawn’s magic, each offered players a compelling branching narrative, and new characters and killers to explore.
With each subsequent title, Supermassive introduced players to a new group of survivors, new monsters, and new twists, slowly amassing a library of highly memorable characters. Nearly a decade after the release ofUntil Dawn,Supermassive’s IPfeatures an all-star list of killers and survivors, some of whom have been played by highly popular actors and actresses. However, the developer has yet to bring these characters and worlds together. Luckily, Supermassive Games’ latest collaboration offers the perfect place to do just that.
The Casting of Frank Stoneis set to release in just a few months, leaving the door open forDead by Daylightto celebrate witha crossover event. The time has never been better for Supermassive’s gallery of survivors and killers to make their debut in the asymmetrical horror title. Monsters such as the Wendigo, Du’Met, The Ancient One, and hallucinations from bothLittle HopeandMan of Medanwould all make for unique additions toDBD’s rogues gallery.
What’s more, a few star-studded additions to the survivors' roster, such as Hayden Panettiere’s Samantha, Ashley Tisdale’s Rachel, Shawn Ashmore’s Conrad, and Justice Smith’s Ryan, could make for great options for adaptation to theDead by Daylightfranchise.
It remains to be seen whetherDead by Daylightand Supermassive Games will cross over beyond therelease ofThe Casting of Frank Stone.Still, an event marking the title’s release through a crossover of properties seems like a no-brainer. Supermassive’s library of interactive titles offers an extensive list of compelling additions toDead by Daylight’s roster, and failure to take advantage of such a perfect occasion would be a big missed opportunity.
