It has now been over four years sinceGhost of Tsushimawas released and wowed players with its gorgeous take on the all-too-familiar open-world formula and feudal Japan. It was, by all accounts, one of the biggest surprises of 2020, in an otherwise unfortunate year that was bogged down by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, however, Sucker Punch has yet to confirm any news about a sequel, despiteGhost of Tsushima’s endingleaving its story completely open to continuation.

Countless rumors and leaks have hinted at aGhost of Tsushimasequel, and yet Sucker Punch has not responded to any of them with an official confirmation or denial. At this point, there is a restlessness in the air as the wait for aGhost of Tsushimasequel is continuously lengthened by the developer’s neglect to even announce the development of the game that many fans have waited for since they finished their journey through the first game in 2020. Additionally, now thatGhost of Tsushimahas made its way to PC, even more fans await news of a sequel. While it might make sense from one perspective for Sucker Punch to continue keeping its cards close to its chest in an effort to protectGhost of Tsushima’s sequel, it simultaneously needs to end the uncertainty.

Ghost of Tsushima’s Sequel Needs to Be Confirmed or Denied ASAP

Ghost of Tsushima’s Sequel Has Consistently Proven Leaks and Rumors Wrong

Despite no official confirmation by Sucker Punch,Ghost of Tsushima’s sequel has caused quite a stir with seemingly unending rumors and leaks that suggest its impending arrival. One of the earliest leaks involved a job posting made by Sucker Punch looking for employees who had knowledge offeudal Japanand experience writing for video games. After the release ofGhost of Tsushima, the logical conclusion was obvious — Sucker Punch must be working on a sequel for its 2020 smash hit. Unfortunately, years have past since then with no formal announcement to speak of.

A more recent rumor aboutGhost of Tsushima 2suggested the game would be announced “in the coming months,” after a leaker’s post made in April 2024. “In the coming months” is a rather vague timeline, but it has been several months since the post was made and still no confirmation. Finally,an insider reported details onGhost of Tsushima 2, saying that it is, in fact, in development but likely won’t be released until late 2025. Even with all of these rumors and leaks, Sucker Punch has yet to respond. At the very least, even ifGhost of Tsushima 2is not revealed anytime soon, some word from the developer would give hope to those who remain waiting.

If Sucker Punch is planning to announce or revealGhost of Tsushima 2soon, there are a couple of potential opportunities it could jump on.Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which many consider to be nothing more thanUbisoft’s take onGhost of Tsushima’s formula, is launching in November 2024, so aGhost of Tsushima 2announcement or reveal around then would be prime marketing time. There’s also the next PlayStation State of Play to consider, which is likely to happen closer to September 2024. There was a rumor thatGhost of Tsushima 2would be revealed in the last State of Play, but it missed that opportunity. As such, the next State of Play would be a perfect fit.

Even if it isn’t revealed in a cinematic or gameplay trailer,Ghost of Tsushima’s sequelat least needs a word from its developer soon. A simple post on X might even suffice forGhost of Tsushima’s loyal fan base. At the same time, perhaps Sucker Punch simply wants its game to be in tiptop shape before it is revealed, so maybe more patience is in order.
