Summary

Ever since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, Marvel Studios has had fun including cameos of Marvel characters from the Fox films. InDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel brought back Patrick Stewart as Xavier, and before that, the studio brought in Evan Peters for a role inWandaVision. While Peters' role, which saw him sport Pietro Maximoff’s comic book costume, was a joke more or less, the studio has become more open to including cameos in other projects. However,Agatha All Alongmight not continue the trend like fans hope.

Aubrey Plaza is set to star inAgatha All Alongas a villain. Thus far, Marvel has been rather quiet regarding Plaza’s role. However, that hasn’t stopped some fans from hoping she’ll reprise her role as Lenny Busker from the FX series,Legion. Unfortunately, though, while Marvel could find a way to incorporate Busker into the series, it seems highly unlikely that’ll be the case as Legion was a very contained series that existed outside of other X-Men media.

Agatha All Along Meets Legion?

Back in 2017, FX premiered a brand new X-Men series titledLegion. It was released around the same time asThe Gifted, anotherX-Menseries that aired on Fox, but was entirely separate fromLegion. The only thing the shows had in common was that they existed outside of the films entirely. WhileThe Gifted, which ran for two seasons, had mixed reviews,Legionwas seen asa bold and visually stunning entryin the X-men world. One of the most exciting aspects of the series was Aubrey Plaza’s performance as Lenny. The actress delivered a captivating performance as the terrifying character who was created specifically for the television series. While there’s no reason to believe Plaza’s character, Lenny, will make an appearance inAgatha All Along, it’s understandable why fans are hoping to be proven wrong. Plaza is currently thought to be playing Rio Vidal, a character we know very little about. The only thing we knowfrom the traileris that Rio is a witch, like Agatha, and looks to have a terrifying presence in the series.

In Legion, Lenny, of course, is a character that has died and come back numerous times, having taken on different forms. With that in mind,Agatha All Alongwould be the perfect place for Marvel to have Plaza cameo as Lenny, if the studio wanted to pay homage to Legion. After all, the series isbeing hailed as truly scary and a horror series, just in time for Halloween; an appearance by Lenny would be a pleasant surprise for fans of Legion. However, like with Evan Peters, it seems more than likelyPlaza is playing a new character: Rio Vidal. One that might just share some similarities with Lenny.

Not Every Fox Character Needs to be Revived

While it has been fun to see Marvel Studios find a way to include characters from Fox’s X-Men properties, it’s not something that needs to happen again and again.Deadpool & Wolverineis already set to bring back some of the villains from theX-Menfilms, having shown them in the trailers already. Fans, of course, have reacted positively to the inclusion of characters that were rather misused by Fox, but they don’t appear to be the only characters set to appear. Rumors have suggestedthere are more cameosthat Marvel Studios is trying to hide leading up to the release ofDeadpool & Wolverine. With that said, we’ve already seen the franchise bring back Patrick Stewart and Evan Peters. We’ve even seen the studio bring back Anson Mount fromABC’s failedInhumansseries. Cameos are exciting, but they need to serve a purpose. If Marvel Studios were to have Plaza appear as Lenny, there would need to be a valid reason for bringing the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking towards its future with rumors suggesting a Young Avengers film is on the way. The studio has been laying the groundwork for the younger heroes to take over, and allow the original Avengers to go their own way. Continuing to cling to the past of projects Marvel Studios wasn’t involved in would prove to be an odd choice.

That being said, Marvel has also shown it knows when to pull back on cameos. Leading up to the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the rumored cameos for the film were astounding. At one point, fans began to wonder if the film was acting as an Avengers film, like Captain America: Civil War, without actually being one. As it turned out, though, only some of those rumored cameos ended up being true. Agatha All Along, which is set tointroduce a darker part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will leave the door open for more magic and, thus, cameos. However, as it stands, it seems unlikely Marvel Studios has any intention of introducing Lenny Busker.

Agatha All Along will debut with two episodes on September 18th exclusively on Disney+.
