According to Nintendo, the Switch successor will be revealed no later than March 2025, meaning it won’t be revealed before the end of Nintendo’s ongoing fiscal year. Speaking toIGN, Amazon Games CEO Christoph Hartmann praised the Switch, saying that it was a fantastic system and that the studio hasplans to develop for the Nintendo Switch successor console. He also says that fans should be patient with Nintendo, stating he would be fine waiting a year or more for the console to be perfect instead of the company rushing to get the product out, to get backlash about what doesn’t work properly. “Yeah, we obviously plan to develop games for it and I can’t wait for it to be out. I mean, honestly, I’d rather have them wait a year and get it perfect than rush it to the market and then we all complain about what doesn’t work,” Hartmann says.

Amazon Games' History With Nintendo Switch

Hartmann’s statement is quite notable, as Amazon Games hasn’t released a game on Nintendo’s Switch platform before. Amazon Games' previous works likeNew WorldandLost Arkwere previously PC releases. Amazon Games’Throne and Libertywill be released on consoles this fall, but it will be on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with the Switch not being one of the target platforms. Other games in the works includeBlue ProtocolandKing of Meat, with the latter targeting a Nintendo Switch release among other platforms, but no release date has been set for it either. “From development, I think most non-Nintendo developers are not exclusively doing titles for the Switch. They’re always part of a portfolio mix of platform mix. Just wait.” said Hartmann.

Yeah, we obviously plan to develop games for it and I can’t wait for it to be out. I mean, honestly, I’d rather have them wait a year and get it perfect than rush it to the market and then we all complain about what doesn’t work.

The only things fans know about the Switch 2 are based on rumors and leaks, which make it difficult to determine what to expect accurately. Supposedly, theNintendo Switch 2 can run the Unreal 5MatrixTech Demo, which gives a small insight into how powerful it is. A release date for the system is less clear, but reports allege that the Switch 2 will be released in Q2 2025. Other features of the Switch successor include supposed backwards compatibility with previous Switch games and compatibility with the Joy-Con controllers. In the meantime, Nintendo has a lineup of highly anticipated exclusive games to tie fans over until the Switch 2’s release, includingDonkey Kong Country Returns,Mario and Luigi: Brothership, andMetroid Prime 4, among others.
