Summary
Controversy is rising amongApex Legendsplayers after a bug is discovered that can hide the ultimate of Rampart and Vantage if the player has a Katar. Katar melee weapons aren’t cheap, and theApex Legendscommunity has moved to call the weapon a “pay-to-win skin” as the use of the glitch continues.
Apex Legendsis a character-based battle royale that is currently one of the hottest titles in the genre. Players have a myriad of legends to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and skill sets. Vantage and Rampart are two such legends, with Vantage being a sniper andRampart heavily relying on a defensive playstyle. In both cases, their ultimate abilities temporarily grant them a powerful weapon, with Vantage receiving a potent sniper rifle that can tag opponents and leave them vulnerable, whereas Rampart receives a large minigun that is lethal against anyone caught in the open. The drawback of these powerful weapons is that everyone knows when it is happening. Vantage’s sniper lets off a bright beam that can be seen by friends and foes alike. Rampart’s minigun features a small laser sight, as well as being physically big and incredibly loud. These elements allow a measure of counterplay against them, but a recent exploit has made that quite difficult.
Apex Legendsplayers have recently discovered a glitch involving the Katar artifact weapons, in which they make the gun from Rampart and Vantage’s ultimate invisible. By equipping these characters with a Katar, switching to the Katar, and then activating the ultimate, the guns they produce are invisible and make no noise. This is especially devastating for Rampart, who can shred even the healthiest of Legends within a second if her minigun is in full spin. Katars were introduced earlier this year toApex Legendsas a universal heirloom weapon shared among all legends, and obtaining one costs a minimum of $40, making them not a cheap investment.

Despite this, Respawn has historically been expeditious when addressing bugs and glitches, and considering the recent response to the Battle Pass controversy, it’s clear that Respawn takes the views of its fans seriously.Season 22 ofApex Legendsbrought with it a new map, exciting events for the future, and various balance changes, but it also seemed to accidentally turn the Katar artifacts into pay-to-win items.
