Developer Obsidian Entertainment previously revealed that itfocused heavily onAvowed’s characters, with the studio describing companions as being integral to its next release’s narrative. In aninterview with IGNat Gamescom 2024,Avowed’s director, Carrie Patel, said that the game’s ending slides numbered in the double digits, implying that it would havemore than 10 endings. She added that people may see different varieties of end screen combinations upon finishing the game. Ending slides, a staple in RPGs, usually show a player the outcome of their journey based on the actions and choices that they took throughout their adventure. “This is an Obsidian game, so your ending is really the sum total of your choices across the game, across a lot of pieces of content depending on what you encountered and what you did when you found it,” Patel, who already confirmed in the past thatAvowedwould have multiple endings, said.

As there will be plenty of story-related choices in the title, Obsidian Entertainment expects gamers to play throughAvowedmore than once. The studio also told IGN that it believes many people will end up withAvowedas their first game set in thePillar of Eternityuniverse, but Patel assured that these players would still have a great time with the title. Long-time fans of thePillars of Eternityfranchise, meanwhile, should be able to recognize callbacks, references, and cameos inAvowed.
How Many Ending Screens Will Avowed Have?
Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated RPG was supposed to launch on the PC and Xbox Series X/S systems this fall, butAvowed’s release was delayed to Jun 06, 2025. Other major first-party titles by Xbox-owned studios are set to come out within the last quarter of 2024, so the gaming giant explained that it pushed backAvowed’s launch to give players' backlogs some breathing room. Treyarch’sCall of Duty: Black Ops 6, Asobo Studio’sMicrosoft Flight Simulator 2024, and MachineGames’Indiana Jonesproject,Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, are scheduled to be released before the year ends.
