Summary
An unluckyBaldur’s Gate 3player started a new playthrough looking for fun, but they unexpectedly rolled a Critical Failure at the very beginning of their quest. InBaldur’s Gate 3, probability plays a key role, since players need to roll a die in order to perform actions or attacks.
The die system inBaldur’s Gate 3is one of the game’s strongest points, as it keeps the gameplay experience interesting with its random outcomes. All events, including combat actions, are decided by the roll of a die. There are various dice inBaldur’s Gate 3, but the most used one is the d20, meaning a die with 20 sides to decide their fate. To achieve a successful outcome, players must equal or surpass the Difficulty Class they are given. For example, if they want to perform an attack and the DC is 10, a player must roll at least a 10 to land a hit. The lower the DC, the more chances players have to perform their desired action. And yet, even the easiest die rolls can have the worst possible result, as was the case for oneBaldur’s Gate 3fan.
Reddit user Relative-Zombie-3932 shared how they started a newBaldur’s Gate 3playthrough, but luck was not on their side. When trying to rescue Shadowheart in the game’s prologue, they rolled a 1 against a very low DC of 2, resulting in a Critical Failure. Since it was a d20 die, the chances of failing were only one in twenty, but still possible. Shadowheart isthe strongest companion inBaldur’s Gate 3, so missing the chance to have her join the team at the very start of a run is very unfortunate.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Rolls Critical Failure from the Very Start
Relative-Zombie-3932 shared the incredible die result with other players while jokingly stating that their new playthrough was “off to a great start.” Not all hope was lost, however, since they already had Lae’zel as a companion to free Shadowheart regardless. Under the post, players found their bad luck hilarious too, but they encouraged the original poster by saying their character, named “Big Joey,” would endure any hardship. As unlikely as it sounds, rolling a Critical Failure is not uncommon, even using advantages. OneBaldur’s Gate 3player rolled two Critical Failures at once, negating any shot at success.
Baldur’s Gate 3recently celebrated its first anniversary, and its playerbase still goes strong with fans constantly sharing the hilarious moments they experience while playing. They also get very creative in their playthroughs, with oneBaldur’s Gate 3building an Underwear Throwerfor combat. There may not be a confirmed sequel yet, but there is still plenty of content for fans to enjoy inBaldur’s Gate 3.
