Summary

Devil Fruits are one of the two major power systems inOne Piece. They allow those who consume them to gain a special power in exchange for their ability to swim. This can, at times, have chaotic implications in the main story, where villains can turn into dragons or steal souls. But this chaos has the potential to multiply when media outside the canonical series is considered. In the foraysOne Piecehas made into various non-canon territories, such as films, video games, oreven filler episodes. The series has also encountered characters with incredible Devil Fruits that are unfettered by the original writer’s imposed limits on the universe.

This fruit allows its user to increase the size and speed of everything they touch up to 100 times. It was eaten by Brynndi World, the captain of the World Pirates. Its power can be utilized to devastate opposition, increasing the size and speed of objects such as scythes, bullets, and cannonballs to make them destroy battleships and islands. This allows World to defeat his foes with relatively little in terms of ammunition. He can also speed himself up. It is perhaps because of his abilities that he is one of a handful of non-canon level 6 Impel Down prisoners who Blackbeard couldn’t sway to his side.

World was able to fight largely on par witha mid-timeskipMonkey D. Luffy, despite his advanced age of 78. His Devil Fruit abilities notably allowed him an edge in the first duel. However, his own scope of desire, revenge on the World Government, ultimately made him too big a target to roam around unfettered.

5Batto Batto no Mi: Model Vampire

One Piece: Unlimited World Red

The ruthless Patrick Redfield, avideo game exclusivecharacter, is a fairly powerful older man and another former Level 6 prisoner of Impel Down. His devil fruit, the Batto Batto no Mi: Model Vampire, allows him toturn into a vampireand drain the life force of others, regaining his past physical strength in the process. He is also able to teleport, fly, and shroud himself in darkness. He relies on a steady source of life force to utilize the majority of his powers. He is further shown to be able to return the life force of those he drained it from, leaving them largely unharmed in the process.

However, despite his ability to enfeeble foes and strengthen himself, he is not invincible. Even drained of life, Luffy is still capable of damaging him. This helped convince him to voluntarily return the life force he stole, feeling as though he should not deprive others of their lives to enrich his own. It is unclear if Redfield has the same weaknesses as vampires in addition to their strengths. This would render him vulnerable to far more than the standard water and seastone weaknesses. It is also not clear how powerful the drained energy makes the user, as Redfield can hold his own even in his golden years.

One Piece Film: Gold

The Gran Tesoro is a ship with an expansive metropolis on top of it. The ship includes a variety of gambling devices where lucky users can gain copious amounts of wealth. The Straw Hat Pirates were invited to do just the same inOne Piece Film: Gold. However, there’s one additional difficulty imposed that makes the operation a bit harder to crack; one executive’s Paramecia Fruit. Baccarat, a concierge, has the ability to steal luck from guests and make it her own, simply by making physical contact. This skill seems central to the operation. By stealing luck from visitors, such as the Straw Hats, she is able to put them in debt they have to pay off by working as slaves. This regularly adds additional wealth and human infrastructure to the Gran Tesoro.

However, Baccarat doesn’t just use her Devil Fruit for finance, it also proves an oddly effective combat skill. By stealing enough luck, she can effectively become invincible until she runs out of luck. While lucky, she can dodge any enemy’s devastating attacks, and launch her own with objects as minuscule as a single coin. Aside from standard weaknesses, there is another flaw this fruit has; the hubris it imposes upon its users. Baccarat was undone by explaining the intricacies of her own power to her enemies. Usopp used this knowledge to shoot a slot machine at her, wasting her remaining luck and leaving her open to attack.

2Gasha Gasha no Mi

One Piece Stampede

Douglas Bullet is one of the most imposing pirates in the series. He is one ofGol D. Roger’s former crewmates, as well as one of the most powerful pirates on the crew, perhaps second only to Roger. Despite this fact, Bullet is very independent-minded, and driven by a desire to fight stronger foes and in a manner not too different from Kaido. When merely taking his physical strength into account, Bullet is scary. When adding his Devil Fruit into the equation, Bullet is near unbeatable.

The awakened Gasha Gasha no Mi allows Bullet to assimilate effectively any present compatible material into mechanical creations. He frequently does this, creating exoskeletons and stronger forms for himself, which took a number of powerful pirates to ultimately dismantle. However, this fruit requires a lot of mechanical knowledge to be utilized to its fullest. Ironically, the battle-hungry bullet has the brains to augment his brawn beyond its baseline.

1Uta Uta no Mi

One Piece Film: Red

Although Shanks' crew, theRed Hair Pirates, currently has no known Devil Fruit users within it, hisfoster daughter, Uta, certainly has a powerful one. The Uta Uta no Mi has the ability to transport the souls of those who hear its user’s singing to a near-inescapable pocket dimension, Uta World. This can even be done remotely, as souls of those livestreaming the concert can be transported too. However, Uta needs to remain awake for the world to be active.

The Devil Fruit can also summon and banish the malevolent Tot Musica, an entity who seemingly only wants to destroy as many people as possible. While there are ways to avoid music, even in Uta World, the victims of Uta are largely at her mercy, as killing her will merely trap them into Uta World. Aside from banishing the Tot Musica or the user willingly allowing them to escape, the central recourse outside of stalling the clock is hiding from the music in Uta World.
