Multiplayer games have always been incredibly popular, especially in recent years. However, single-player games are just as valid, and many RPGs offer remarkable solo adventures for gamers to dive into.
A core tenet of RPGs is the creation of character builds, and there are various roles and classes to occupy in such games. Of these, thesupport roleis incredibly important, coming with abilities to heal allies, bolster friends, or reduce enemy deadliness. They might not be as fun to play as damage-dealing classes, but they are often vital to progression. A dedicated support can help win the game and should be focused on just as much as the other available roles.
Some of the following games feature multiplayer/co-op modes, but the support classes available in them are also usable in single-player playthroughs.
For anyone who is familiar with the RPG genre, it tends to be obvious as towhat classes do what, even with no hours spent in the game.Knights of the Old Republicis different, however, featuring support classes that can be familiar in a gameplay sense but unique in appearance.
The Jedi Consular class can support the party with their force abilities. They are able to heal party members while also affecting and debuffing enemies with their abilities. Given that they specialize in the force, they can also deal damage from range as well as provide support.
Usually,isometric RPGstend to feature some of the more involved and in-depth classes and builds that players can use. There are a ton of classes inPathfinder Kingmaker, with obvious roles such as melee damage dealer, magic damage dealer, and, of course, support.
There are obvious examples of support classes, such as bard, cleric, and paladin, all of which have ways of helping allies. Some are able to heal others, while some can bolster allies. Some classes are even able to do both, making for great support playthroughs.
As is the case in most RPGs,many classes feature a playstylethat one would expect them to.Pillars of Eternityboth does this and doesn’t, with some classes playing as would be expected and others possessing support utilities that are not too traditional.
Priests and paladins are the obvious examples of support classes, with abilities that can help and/or heal allies, which is to be expected of such classes. However, some other classes, such as Wizard, can also utilize support abilities, something not so thought of with such a class.
A game created by BioWare and Obsidian would naturally be an amazing RPG. This was the casewhenNeverwinter Nightscame out, and it provided players with various classes to choose from. The support classes available are very traditional choices, being ones that players will have seen before in other RPGs.
Clerics are the notable class, with options for both support and otherwise. Good Domain Cleric has the ability to protect others, while Healing Domain can restore the health of allies. Other classes, such as bard and paladin, are also present and can execute support abilities.
WhileGenshin Impactmight not fit the immediate thought of support builds, it does allow for players to engage in such a playstyle. The main gameplay revolves around controlling a party, but with only one character on-field, andsupport characters are neededto supplement the team.
Characters such as Kazuha or Furina are notable examples, providing enormous buffs for the party that help with defeating enemies. More niche characters, such as Faruzan or Kujou Sara, help with their unique playstyles, suited for buffing other teammates of the same element to deal increased damage.
Given the vast amount of personas inPersona 5for the player to obtain, there are many routes available for players to plan a build. Obviously, support is among the different roles present, and it’s an extremely important role at that.
When creating various personas, building a dedicated support persona out of other support personas leads to an incredibly valuable support build. Of course, there are differentsupport skills inPersona 5, and many are crucial to progression, such as Debilitate, Heat Riser, and Concentrate.
One of the well-known highlights ofBaldur’s Gate 3is the sheer amount of ways a player can enjoy the game. There is an array of companions available as well, allowing for players to not always be the main damage dealer, as they can build a support character if they wish.
Classes such as bard and cleric are thenotable support examples. Both can help the party in various ways, but can they also deal damage if needed. That’s not to say other that classes can’t do support either, as paladins and druids are also able to play in such a fashion if the player wants them to.
