Summary
Black Myth: Wukongtruly shines with its fast-paced combat system and wide variety of spells. Players can accesspowerful Strand, Mysticism, and Alteration spells, along with a broad selection of temporary transformations into different creatures, each with their own unique set of skills and attacks.Transforming requires Might, a special resource that functions differently from Mana or Stamina. Players can upgrade the Transformation skill tree, improving all spells at once, as well as upgrade specific skills to enhance their potential (though not all transformations are upgradable).
There are a total of ten transformation spells inBlack Myth: Wukong, many of which are hidden and easy to miss, requiring tricky steps to unlock. Each spell requires practice to understand its strengths, weaknesses, range, and speed. Some transformations feature not only light and heavy attacks but also a unique skill that can be activatedby building Focus. While the transformations vary in their abilities, none are inherently weak — each can be mastered and used effectively in battle.
10Azure Dust
The Rock Guai Form
TheAzure Dust transformation spellis ideal for combat against enemies that inflict status effects and deal elemental damage. When transformed into the Rock Guai, the Destined One becomesimmune to all Four Banes: Burn, Shock, Chill, and Poison. Additionally, every hit from enemies increases Might, allowing players to maintain this defensive form for longer.
While Rock Guai is highly effective in resisting elemental damage, its slow moveset can make it challenging to deal with faster foes. However, its unique jump attack can stagger every enemy within its range, providing some relief in tough situations.
9Ebon Flow
The Yin Tiger Form
Bychallenging and defeating Yin Tiger the Blacksmithin Zodiac Village, players gain access to his colossal sword, unlocking the Ebon Flow transformation spell. This powerful form excels in hard-hitting attacks and is capable of deflecting enemy combos. When players build Focus to fully charge the sword, they can unleash a devastating swing that deals massive damage.
On the downside, this form lacks upgrades and suffers from overall slowness in movement. Against quick bosses, this sluggishness can become a liability, as it makes it easier for enemies to interrupt swings and prevent the accumulation of Focus points.
8Violet Hail
The Worm Guai Form
One of the easiest transformation spells to miss in the game, Violet Hail isobtained by defeating the Daoist Mi bossin the secret area of Chapter Four, the Purple Mountain. Before reaching this point, players must assist Daoist Mi with a quest and not kill the final boss of the location, Duskveil. If the player kills Duskveil, Daoist Mi will disappear, meaning the Worm Guai form can only be acquired in a subsequent playthrough.
The Violet Hail transformation spell excels at poisoning enemies, though controlling the worm can feel chaotic due to its twitchy and unpredictable movement.
7Hoarfrost
The Monk From The Sea Form
Hoarfrost is likely the wildest-looking transformation spell inBlack Myth: Wukong, turning the Destined One into a bizarre, humanoid creature with tentacles sprouting from its shoulders and belly. In this form, players can inflict Frost damage while building Focus. The heavy attack is particularly useful, allowing players to swing the tentacles in wide arcs, hitting all nearby enemies.
Hoarfrost’s unique skill is Ice Sheet, which lets players unleash a barrage of smaller snowballs from the tentacles. The heavy strike, however, throws massive snowballs capable of instantly freezing enemies in their tracks.
6Dark Thunder
The Horse Guai Form
Acquiring the Dark Thunder transformation spell is one of the more emotional moments inBlack Myth: Wukong, as the Destined One gains this form after the death of his friend, Horse Guai, in Chapter Five. By interactingwith the cart where Horse Guai’s soulwas trapped and claiming his whip, players unlock the ability to transform into Horse Guai, wielding the whip for mid-range attacks while also becoming immune to thunder damage.
Horse Guai’s exclusive skill is the Thrilled State, which can be triggered by building up Focus. In this state, the player gains access to new attack types, with each lash dealing additional thunder damage.
5Ashen Slumber
The Rat Guai Form
The two-headed, fire-breathing Rat Guai are among the most formidable elite enemies in Chapter Two, but players can onlyobtain this transformation in Chapter Three. It’s easy to miss since it’slocked behind a purple seal. It’s highly recommended to claim this form, as it’s excellent for crowd control and has a unique skill capable of dealing massive damage over a wide area.
In this form, Rat Guai can perform both light and heavy strikes with a sword, but its main appeal lies in the fire-breathing attack. This requires time to charge, so players must remain aware of their surroundings. If the situation becomes too dire, Rat Guai can self-destruct, exploding in a burst of fire and damaging all nearby enemies.
4Umbral Abyss
The Macaque Chief Form
Players must face the Macaque Chief three times inBlack Myth: Wukong, ultimately earning this transformation after the final battle in Chapter Three. Interestingly, it’s one of the rare transformation spells (similar to Azure Dome) that players are required to use during a specific and spectacular section of the game, providing an opportunity for some free practice.
The Macaque Chief is both agile and powerful, wielding a long-reaching sword with impressive damage potential. Its most notable feature is a special charged frost attack. When activated, the Macaque Chief grows a pair of wings, while his attacks can freeze enemies in place.
3Azure Dome
The Stone Monkey Form
The Azure Dome transformation has the potential to be the most powerful spell inBlack Myth: Wukong, if not for the fact that it only unlocks during the game’s secret ending, making it accessible for proper use only in New Game Plus mode. Upon activation, the Destined One transforms into Stone Monkey — the same formidable boss players face during the game’s default ending. In this form, the Stone Monkey is both exceptionally strong and highly resistant.
One of the Azure Dome’s greatest advantages is that it allows players to retain access to their full spell arsenal, enabling them to unleash devastating combos on their enemies while in this powerful form.
2Red Tides
The Wolf Guai Form
Red Tides is the first transformation spell players unlock inBlack Myth: Wukong, and much like the Immobilize spell, it remains one of the best and most reliable throughout the entire game. Upon activation, the Destined One transforms into a wolf wielding a fire-infused twinblade staff, delivering fire damage with each strike. However, the real highlight of the Red Tides spell is its heavy attack.
The heavy attack launches the Wolf Guai forward over a moderate distance, quickly dealing fire damage while simultaneously evading incoming attacks. This move can be instantly repeated, allowing players to chain together multiple high-damage fire strikes, igniting most enemies with ease.
1Golden Lining
The Yellow Loong Form
Golden Lining is a much harder-to-obtain spell, requiring players tofind and defeat the secret Yellow Loong boss, one of the most powerful enemies inBlack Myth: Wukong. The reward for this challenging victory is the transformation into Yellow Loong himself, who is capable of using quick evasions and dealing significant lightning damage with his rapid attacks.
The main appeal of Golden Lining lies in its speed and damage combination, with the Yellow Loong’s spear offering excellent reach. By mastering the timing of light and heavy attack combos, players can unleash deadly thunder strikes, making quick work of many foes and dealing massive damage to bosses.
