Summary

One Piecemay seem like a light-hearted anime, but there are plenty of instances in the story where things become grim quickly. As the plot has progressed, fans have had the opportunity to see manyOne Piececharacters die and suffer at the hands of others.

This is a huge deal, especially when most of theOne Pieceworld is preoccupied by pirates, who are known for being greedy. Due to this reason, the sacrifices made by any character in One Piece are special. Needless to say, these acts of compassion changed One Piece for the better.

Sacrificed Himself To Protect Luffy

Portgas D. Ace was theSecond Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. He was content with his role, but things changed when Blackbeard, a member of his division, murdered Thatch. Ace took it upon himself to find and punish Blackbeard. When he came face to face with the deserter, Ace was ready to unleash hell upon him.

However, Blackbeard proved too powerful for Ace. Ultimately, Ace ended up in Impel Down and, after a while, he was shifted to Marineford. Ace had accepted his fate, but that didn’t stop Luffy from freeing his older brother. After fighting for so long, Luffy stopped, which gave Akainu an opportunity to finish him off. Bon Clay

3Bartholomew Kuma

Gave Up His Sentience To Save Bonney

Bartholomew Kuma had a very difficult childhood, but that didn’t stop him from being one of the nicest, if not the nicest, characters in One Piece. After eating the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, Kuma used to take out the pain from the bodies of other people and, subsequently, put his own self through it.

But these small sacrifices were nothing in comparison to what he did for Jewelry Bonney. Kuma gave up his own identity and his life for the sake of his daughter. He wasn’t even sad about losing himself. In fact, he was elated that his daughter’s life would be saved. Aside from helping Bonney, Kuma also took a beating for a long time to protect the Thousand Sunny from any threats.

2Bon Clay

Gave Up His Freedom Twice For Luffy

Bon Clay was introduced as a villain who was working for Crocodile’s Baroque Works. But he had a change of heart after Crocodile was captured. Bon Clay first helped the Straw Hats escape from Hina and the Marines. Then, in Impel Down, Bon Clay stayed behind to let Luffy and the other escapees reach Marineford.

Both were acts of selflessness, and the best thing is that he didn’t have to go that far for Luffy. But he did it anyway because he considered him a close friend. It is safe to say that without Bon Clay, the journey of the Straw Hat Pirates would have come to a premature end.
