After being announced all the way back in 2020,Black Myth: Wukongwas finally released on August 20 for PlayStation 5 and PC. While the new action RPG will also be coming to Xbox consoles, developer Game Science had bad news for fans when it announced just two months before launch thatBlack Myth: Wukonghad been delayed for Xbox Series X/S. There’s currently no release date forBlack Myth: Wukongon Xbox, but Game Science says the delay was due to the game not meeting the studio’s standards on Microsoft’s current generation of consoles.
Withreviews forBlack Myth: Wukongbeing mostly positive, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the game is already breaking records on Steam. In less than 24 hours since the game’s launch on the platform,Black Myth: Wukonghas shot up to become one of the most-played games on Steam, peaking at 1,443,570 concurrent players, according toSteamDB. In terms of current players,Black Myth: Wukongsits in the number one position and has more people playing it than some of Valve’s smash-hit titles, such asCounter-Strike 2andDota 2.

It’s unlikely to take the crown fromPUBG: Battlegroundsanytime soon, butBlack Myth: Wukonghas broken the all-time peak for a single-player game for the first time in four years. The record was previously held byCyberpunk 2077,butBlack Myth: Wukonghas now set a new record to beat by an additional 389,182 concurrent players.
There’s no way to know what the game’s player count currently is on PlayStation 5, but if it’s anything like Steam, Game Science has a huge hit on its hands. Unfortunately, the title hasn’t been completely without controversy, as fans were left baffled by some ofBlack Myth: Wukong’s odd restrictions for streamers.
