Florian Munteanu Could See Himself in Krieg
Even among its extensive and quirky cast,Borderland’s Krieg is one of its most compelling characters. Relaying his familiarity and enjoyment ofBorderlands, Munteanu described having played the games prior to being part of the film, and immediately taking to Krieg once he was added as a new Vault Hunter in theBL2DLC, seeing reflections of himself in Krieg’s appearance and other facets:
“Once the DLC forBorderlands 2came out, I won’t lie, he was definitely my favorite character just because he was so intriguing. I could see myself in him, you know, the way he was built and his craziness and everything about him.”
Florian Munteanu On What Makes Borderlands Special
When asked about what his personal favorite elements ofBorderlandsare, Munteanu stated that the franchise’s iconic cel-shaded style and presentation impressed him, as well as its trademark mix of violence and comedy, all of which makes it stand out as a memorable package.
“WhenBorderlandscame out, I remember thinking to myself that I had never seen anything like that before. It kind of made me think of a Quentin Tarantino movie. It was just so unique and new, especially with the brutality and dark humor that comes with it. I think that’s why the games have had so much success because there’s no comparison to them.”
Munteanu acknowledged that one of the mostappealing parts ofBorderlandsthat contributes to its success and enduring popularity is each of its various characters having an engaging storyline. This in turn allows fans to deeply connect to the ones that speak to them the most and may help them through trying times.
He added that he is keenly aware of how beloved and importantBorderlandsand its characters are to many fans and that reactions and perceptions might vary as to how the film’s versions are received.
