10P.E.K.K.A

High Hitpoints, High Damage, What’s Not To Love? Walls

TheP.E.K.K.Ais a staple ofClash of Clansand is a powerful elixir troop, particularly when it’s first unlocked. In fact, it is part of the popular GoWiPe strategy at Town Hall 8, which involves Golems, Wizards and P.E.K.K.As. Despite its high health, the P.E.K.K.A is most effective whendeployed behind a tankthat can soak up damage, such as a Golem.

The P.E.K.K.A may deal high damage with each hit, but its slow attack speed means it takes a while to break through high health buildings and walls on its own. Over the years, as new and stronger troops have been released, other strategies have emerged, making the P.E.K.K.A less effective.

9Balloon

Slow-Moving As It Drops Bombs From Above

With bigger, flashier, and more powerful troops inClash of Clans, players often overlookBalloons. Despite this, they can be utilized in a range of strategies. At Town Hall 4-6, taking out defending Air Defenses and sending in Balloons is a viable strategy, but at higher Town Halls, Balloons need a tank to protect them. At Town Hall 7 and 8, Dragons are a good option, whileat Town Hall 9 and above, Lava Hounds are perfect for protecting Balloons.

Balloons are also used to set off Seeking Air Mines that would otherwise kill more valuable air troops such as Healers or E-Dragons. With a small housing space requirement, Balloons are by no means a powerful troop on their own, but aspart of a wider strategy, they are incredibly useful.

8Dragon

Rains Fire Down From The Sky

With high hit points, high damage, and a splash attack,Dragons are a great troop that’s viable for every Town Hall level once unlocked. Using lightning spells to destroy Air Sweepers and Air Defenses, then sending in Dragons and Balloons is a common strategy, particularly for Town Halls 7-10. At higher Town Halls, players can use Dragons in combination with other air troops, such as Dragon Riders.

Dragons are not just used for attacking, either. They are commonly donated to defending Clan Castles for Clan Wars since they are a strong all-round troop that can devastate attackers.

7Electro Dragon

Unleashes Chains Of Lightning That Bounce Between Buildings

Electro Dragons (E-Dragons)arepowerful flying troops that shoot lightning. These bolts of lightning bounce between up to 5 targets that are within 1 tile of each other, dealing 20% less damage with each bounce. Due to their slow movement speed, the E-Dragon’s biggest enemy is the Air Sweeper, which continually pushes them back and resets their attack charge. Players can combat this by destroying the Sweepers with Lightning Spells. When E-Dragons are defeated, a barrage of lightning strikes are released, potentially finishing off any low hitpoint buildings around where the E-Dragon died.

E-Dragons are typically used in spam attacks, sent in behind Balloons that set off Air Mines which can deal serious damage to the E-Dragons.Paired with Rage Spells, they can devastate bases, but the results of this strategy are inconsistent.

6Miner

Burrows Underground And Surfaces To Attack

Minersare fast troops that bypass walls and are invincible while traveling underground. Unlocked at Town Hall 10, Miners are great in groups andpair well with Hog Riders in a strategy known as Queen Charge Hybrid. This strategy involves the Queen eliminating a chunk of the base and the defending Clash Castle troops on her own. Then, Miners and Hog Riders are sent in with the Grand Warden and Royal Champion (if unlocked), plus Heal Spells to clean up the rest of the base.

Since Hog Riders jump over walls and target defenses, Miners are the perfect pairing. They candeal with defending heroesand Skeleton Traps, which the Hog Riders ignore. Queen Charge Hybrid is even used at Town Hall 16, so mastering this strategy gives players a powerful option from Town Hall 10 and up.

5Wizard

Support The Army With Magic Blasts From Afar

Wizards are a core componentfor lots of strategies, offering support to every army with ranged damage. They are an essential part of lower Town Hall strategies, dealing damage while being protected by a tank such as a Giant, or Golem, because of their low health total and vulnerability to traps.

Even at higher Town Hall levels they are useful, used to either clean up a base or to support an army from a distance. Their ability to target ground and air makes them crucial for eliminating defending Clan Castle troops, particularly flying troops.

Purple and Blue Yeti standing on grass next to a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

4Yeti

Damage-Dealing Tank That Spawns Yetimites

Yetisare a formidable troop with good hit points and high damage. As they take damage,Yetimitesjump from the Yeti’s bag and leap at defenses, dealing 352 damage at max level. A level 6 Yeti summons 13 Yetimites in total, andpaired with a Rage Spell, they can devastate areas of a base. Yetimites do half damage to the Town Hall, but they can still destroy itwhen paired with a Rage Spell.

Yetis are a versatile troop that can be used as a tank for other troops, such as Wizards and Bowlers, or can be deployed behind other tanks such as Golems or Root Riders. Pairing Yeti’s with Earthquake or Jump Spells also helps mitigate their weakness when it comes to getting through walls.

Electro Titan standing on grass next to a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

3Electro Titan

High Health Tank That Zaps Nearby Enemies

TheElectro Titanis a powerful tank that possesses an aura effect, which deals137 damage per second to everything within a 3.5 tile radius(apart from walls). This aura, paired with a large health total and the ability to attack ground and air targets, makes the Electro Titan a force to be reckoned with. She can eliminate defending Clan Castle troops and Skeleton Traps by herself, which most tanks cannot do. However, just like the P.E.K.K.A and Yeti, Electro Titans struggle to break through walls efficiently.

The aura effect stacks with each Electro Titan and can be boosted with a Rage Spell, so funneling them into the core of a base that’s stacked with defenses is key. This is where her aura ability will be most effective at clearing out clusters of defenses. Overall,Electro Titans are versatile tanks that deal good damage themselves.

Healer floating next to a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

2Healer

Heals Friendly Units From Above

Instead of dealing damage,Healersheal friendly units, increasing their survivability. They can be paired with Giants at Town Hall 6, but are more popular once the Archer Queen is unlocked at Town Hall 9.Pairing 5 Healers with the Archer Queen is a great strategy from Town Hall 9 through to 16 known as a Queen Charge(any more than 5 has no effect). Add Rage, Jump, Freeze and Invisibility Spells, and the Queen can take out huge amounts of a base on her own.

The Healers’ main weakness isAir Defenses and Seeking Air Mines, which can quickly take them out. However, in a Queen Charge, the Archer Queen outranges Air Defenses and can destroy them before the Healers are damaged. Another weakness is Air Sweepers, which will push the Healers away, stopping them from healing friendly units for a brief time. Despite this,Healers are brilliant at keeping friendly units alive.

1Root Rider

Root Riding, Wall Wrecking

The most recent elixir troop added toClash of Clansis theRoot Rider, and it’s by far the strongest. With high hit points, decent damage, an ability to plow through walls like they’re not even there, and only taking 20 housing space,Root Riders make attacking feel like it’s on easy mode. There’s need to take Jump or Earthquake Spells or a Siege Machine to break through walls; just take Root Riders.

Players can support Root Riders with pretty much anything that deals damage: Wizards, Bowlers, Yetis, Valkyries, Witches, Electro Titans. And becausethe Root Riders demolish walls, any troop can gain access to the base. Even after several nerfs, Root Riders remain the go-to strategy for everyone who has access to them.
