Summary
According to a Firewalk Studios developer,Concordhas been in the works for nearly a decade. The hero shooter is set to officially launch tomorrow, August 23, finally bringingConcordto the finish line.
Gamers got their first official sneak peek at the title during Sony’s State of Play in May 2024. The title’s announcement intrigued some and concerned others, as criticisms of the game’s character design andits likeness toGuardians of the Galaxygave it a rocky start leading up to its launch. Now thatConcord’s release date is only a few hours away, both skeptics and excited fans will be able to experience what Firewalk Studios has crafted for the PS5 and PC. Although the game wasn’t officially announced until August 2023, it looks likeConcordhas been a long time coming.
Jon Weisnewski, the lead character designer forConcord, revealed in a tweet that Firewalk Studios has been developing the hero shooter for around eight years. To celebratethe release ofConcord, Weisnewski expressed his excitement about seeing the development team’s hard work finally coming to fruition.
Firewalk Studios Has Worked On Concord For Nearly A Decade
In the tweet, Weisnewski asked for “good vibes” asConcordlaunches to the public. Out of the eight yearsConcordhas been in development, Weisnewski has been there for five. Continuing to share his excitement, Weisnewski stated in a continuing Twitter thread that his appreciation for the opportunity to work in a creative environment with fellow developers has been a rewarding experience. He also expressed his hope that gamers will giveConcorda chance, promising the game is a deep and meaningful entry to the hero shooter genre.
Although positive reviews are beginning to trickle in for the game,it hasn’t been an easy road forConcord. After initial backlash following its announcement and low beta numbers,Concordhas a steep hill to climb following its launch. Firewalk Studios' title is going up against major games likeOverwatch 2andValorant, which have become top dogs in the genre. Despite some compelling concepts inConcord, including weekly cinematics that dive deeper into its characters, the game may have not generated the amount of hype Firewalk Studios and Sony were hoping for. Although this could impact the game’s launch, the positive reviews and feedback from beta participants will hopefully build enough excitement to inspire others to check out whatConcordhas to offer.
