Summary
Pre-orders for a new limited edition DualSense controller themed around the upcoming Sony live-service shooterConcordhave recently gone live on the PlayStation Direct storefront. With less than one month to go until its launch on August 23, hype aroundConcordis rather lukewarm after its recent beta periods, but Sony is seemingly soldiering on with the game’s marketing cycle regardless.
Concordis a competitive 5v5 first-person hero shooter and the debut title of Firewalk Studios, a PlayStation first-party team comprised of talent from popular franchises likeDestinyandBioShock. The game was first announced back in 2021 as a multiplayer first-person shooter project, but hadn’t been titled at the time. A more formal reveal forConcordhappened by way of a somewhat vague CGI trailer at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, shortly afterSony acquired Firewalk Studios. The May 2024 State of Play finally revealedConcordas a 5v5 hero shooter, which disappointed many fans expecting something different.
The recently concludedConcordbetas didn’t generate much interesteither, with less than 2,500 concurrent players trying out the shooter on Steam. Even though the enthusiasm aroundConcordisn’t as high as Sony may have hoped, the company is still doing its best to promote the upcoming PvP title, as is evident with an all-newConcordthemed DualSense controller. Sony is currently accepting pre-orders for the limited-edition PS5 controller on thePlayStation Direct websitefor a hefty $84.99, making it the most expensive iteration of the DualSense to date.
Concord Limited Edition PS5 Controller Release Date, Price, and Availability
TheConcordLimited Edition controller seemingly uses the Midnight Black edition of the standard DualSense as a base and overlays the touchpad and grips with red and turquoise decals, effectivelyechoingConcord’s neo-retro sci-fi theme. Smaller details, such as a spaceship on the left-hand grip, can also be noticed. The decals don’t extend to the rear of the controller, however, with only a print of theConcordlogo on the back. Though many would likely find the limited edition DualSense quite appealing to look at, the higher markup compared to other variants of the controller might turn some buyers away.
For now, theConcordLimited Edition DualSense is only available to pre-order in the United States, but it might be expanded to other regions soon. The controller is slated to be released alongside the game on August 23. With a lot of players already claimingConcordto be dead on arrival at launch, it remains to be seen if positive word-of-mouth could carry it forward to greater success down the line.
