Summary

In every good Sci-Fi universe, there needs to be a clear set of factions. InStar Wars, it’s the Republic and Separatists, the Rebels and the Empire, and the Resistance and the First Order. InStar Trek, it’s the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Borg, and more. Even the Wild West-inspiredFireflyhas the Alliance and the Browncoats. So, naturally, Firewalk’sConcordfollows suit.

Though it doesn’t play a vital role inConcord’s typical gameplay loop, there’s a lot of lore hiding beneath the surface ofConcord’s Sci-Fi universe. Upon opening upConcord’s Galactic Guide for the first time, players are likely to be taken aback by how many lore entries they can access off the bat. Many of these lore entries reference a faction known as the Guild, and after reading a few entries, players will quickly realize this organization is the game’s primary antagonist.

The Lore of Concord’s Guild Faction Explained

The Guild’s Role in Concord’s Galaxy

Just over a centurybefore the events ofConcord, the merchant Guild’s influence began to quickly spread across the galaxy, first in the Core Worlds, and then eventually into the Wilds. Over time, the Guild managed to become the most dominant force in the Concord Galaxy’s Core Worlds, achieving a monopoly on valuable resources like food and Salt Fuel and using that to control the system’s population.

But that wasn’t enough forConcord’s Guild. In an attempt to firmly establish their control over the Wilds, the Guild dragged a moon-sized asteroid halfway across the galaxy and slammed it into the face of the planet Silo. The impact of this asteroid essentially terraformed the planet of Silo, turning it from a Tundra-ridden wasteland into an inhabitable biome. At the center point of the asteroid’s impact zone, the Guild built Crater City and adorned it with a gigantic Spire that reached from the planet’s surface all the way into orbit.

Not just a fancy piece of architecture, the Guild’s Spire on Silo contains thousands of offices and boardrooms, along with docking bays, and even some stealth defenses. The Spire became the Guild’s new headquarters and became the new hub of the entire Wilds in the process, signaling to the wider galaxy that the Guild was now officially the most powerful force around.

Followingthe Tempest Disasterthat split the galaxy in two and separated the Core Worlds from the Wilds, the Guild only grew in power, clinging even tighter onto its precious resources, and gaining an even tighter grip on the galaxy’s remaining inhabitants. The Guild also increased their military presence across the Wilds, creating more frequent checkpoints along busy spacelanes, dropping minefields next to the most important planets, and establishing a sizable military base on Havoc, right in the center of the Wilds.

How The Guild Could Fit Into Concord’s Ongoing Narrative

So far, the Guild hasn’t had much of a presence inConcord’s ongoing narrative, not being a focal point of the game’s weekly cinematics just yet. That being said, the Guild did appear in theConcord Freegunner Adventures - Guild Infiltrationanimated short that was released in the lead-up toConcord’s launch. This animated short sees Freegunners Kyps, Duchess, and Roka infiltrate a Guild facility on Silo, which could be a great concept for a futureConcordmap and mode.
