Summary

Behaviour Interactive has announced that it will extend the duration of the 2v8 limited-time game mode inDead by Daylightby one week. The game mode has been a huge success, bringing in the highest peak player countDead by Daylighthas seen in over two years.

On July 25, a brand-new limited-time mode was added to the asymmetrical horror gameDead by Daylight. This mode raised the stakes on all fronts of the game by doubling the size of both teams – two killers versus eight survivors. For the first time inDead by Daylight’s history, killer players could team up against insurmountable odds and work together to ensure eight survivors could not escape the Entity’s realm. Instead of perks, survivors have classes, and killers have Team Powers. Classes give survivors special abilities, allowing them to excel at either repairing, healing, running, or hiding.Team Powers allows the two killers to work in unisonto defend the 13 generators on custom-made supersized maps. The mode was meant to only run for two weeks, but due to being such a big success, this has been extended.

The official Twitter account forDead by Daylightannounced that it was planning on extending the runtime of the 2v8 game mode by one week. This extension is solely due to the positive feedback the mode has received from players during its runtime. According to Behaviour, over 40% of all matches played during the two weeks were in 2v8 mode, even after the bonus Bloodpoint incentive for survivors was removed. When first released, the game mode was so inundated with killers that400% bonus Bloodpoints were being offered toDead by Daylightplayerswho joined 2v8 matches as survivors.

As an asymmetric horror game,Dead by Daylightis heavily viewed for its ability to balance the game. Every character, perk, ability, item, and add-on must be carefully considered within the context of a 4v1. With this in mind, a mode that throws this careful balance out of the window shouldn’t work on paper, but between the bigger maps, faster gameplay, and custom abilities made specifically for the game mode, it’s clear that a lot of thought and love was put into 2v8.Dead by Daylight’s 2v8 mode is as chaotic as it was predicted to be, but if the feedback from fans is anything to go by, this chaos is a welcome change to the game.

Once the 2v8 mode has run its course,Dead by Daylightfans have aCastlevaniacrossover to await with bated breath. Despite the positive feedback, the game mode hasn’t been without its complaints, namely the incredibly long queue times in both 2v8 and normal mode. Fans are showing concern at this continuing, but that the mode is being extended at all does show that Behaviour is listening and taking in player feedback.
