Summary

The development team behind asymmetric online survival horror gameDead by Daylightwill be making changes to shore up its character menu and customization user interface. While details on just what sort of improvementsDead by Daylight’s UI will see aren’t yet clear, they will be based on feedback the developers have received from players.

The game’s 8.1.0 update launched on July 16. While the addition ofTomb Raider’s Lara Croft to Dead by Daylight’s roster drew most of the attention with that update, it also implemented some changes to the user interface that have not sat well with the player base in general.

While there have been numerous complaints about the new interface’s layout, the change that has drawn the most criticism centers around the character selection menu, which previously placed all of a player’s ownedDead by Daylightsurvivorsand killers at the top of the menu screen. After the launch of the 8.1.0 update, however, owned characters are now interspersed among all available characters, which has some fans remarking that the overly cluttered character selection screen feels more like a DLC shop. The game’s social media team on Twitter recently responded to one player’s criticism of this change, stating that developers plan to adjust the user interface in the future and make changes based on the player feedback that they’ve collected. It also states that players will be informed of these upcoming changes to the user interface once plans are set solidly in place.

Changes toDead by Daylightare coming as part of its ninth year roadmap, and while a change in the game’s current UI seems to be something most fans want, the general response to the social media post hasn’t been particularly positive. Most replies seem to hone in on the vagueness of the statement, criticizing both its non-specific timetable of “in the future” and the lack of information on how the user interface may change again. Multiple respondents just seem to want the user interface reverted to the form it took before the 8.1.0 update, believing there was nothing wrong with the old UI.

The user interface changes aren’t the only issue that has drawn criticism from the game’s player base lately. Just after launching the new update,Dead by Daylightannounced raised DLC priceson PC that will go into effect on July 22. The change will bump up the price of the All Things Wicked, Sadako Rising,Halloween,Nightmare on Elm Street,Saw,Silent Hill, andDungeons and DragonsDLC by $1 each, with Behaviour Interactive stating that the price increase will help to balance cross progression on all available platforms except for Nintendo Switch.
