Dead by Daylightwill soon be launching a new mode in which eight survivors take on two killers in a 10-person all-out chaotic scramble for survival. All ofDead by Daylight’scurrent survivors will be available to try out in the new mode, which launches for a limited time on July 25. However, survivor gameplay has been tweaked significantly. Instead of equipping Perks, players can now choose from one of four classes, each with its own focus and abilities.
Dead by Daylighthead of production Stefan Beauchamp and design director Matt Spriggens explained that 2v8 is intended to be the game’s “party mode,” with a heavy focus on both chaos and teamwork. The choice to replace perks with classes came about because it better allowed players to focus on specific elements and roles while on the fast-paced 2v8 battlefield. When2v8 launches, there will be four classes available for survivors to select.
The Guide – Focus on Generators
In 2v8 mode, each map will now have 13generators. Survivors will be required to repair eight of the 13 in order to escape. The Guide is the designated generator expert, as they can see the aura of nearby generators and have several advantages during the process of generator repair. However, killers will be able to see survivor auras following each successfully repaired generator, so the Guide will need to rely on their teammates to protect them.
The Medic – Focus on Healing
With two killers on the loose, players can expect to take a lot of damage. Fortunately, the Medic is there to help. Medics can see the auras of injured survivors, and will also be able to heal survivors more quickly than other classes. This is especially helpful as theTrappernow has more traps to scatter around the map, while the Wraith can share his aura with his teammate, making them both unable to be detected.
The Escapist – Focus on Speed
In 2v8 mode, the game will now feature three hatches that survivors can use toescape the battlefield. In addition, caught survivors are imprisoned in cages rather than hooks; cages afflict negative statuses on their victims. This makes speed crucial, and that’s where the Escapist comes in. This class can sense the auras of nearby windows and pallets, can move faster when they are injured, and can grant temporary speed boosts to allies.
The Scout – Focus on Stealth
Survivors who want to make it out alive in 2v8 mode will need to keep an eye on the killers. This can be difficult, with the Wraith cloaking himself, the Nurse teleporting, and the Hillbilly sprinting all out with his chainsaw. Fortunately, the Scout can see the aura of killers after they havebroken a palletor a generator. They can also temporarily grant this ability to other survivors within their line of sight. Finally, the Scout moves more quickly while they are crouched, allowing them to stealthily traverse the map and avoid detection by the pair of killers.
Players will be able to try out these four new classes in 2v8 battles for a limited period running from July 25 to August 8.
Behaviour Interactiveplans to add 2v8 mode toDead by Daylightpermanently at a later date, featuring improvements and changes made as a result of player feedback during the trial period. In addition, players will also be able to try out five killers with improved abilities based on working together and strengthening their teammates.
2v8 battles will be carried out on altered versions of pre-existing maps that have been made larger to accommodate for more chaotic gameplay. Players are encouraged to try everything the 2v8 mode has to offer during the trial period and submit feedback to help Behaviour further tweak and improve the new mode.
