Summary

Deadpool and Wolverineconcept art shows fans two Marvel characters in action. Unfortunately, these two cameos didn’t make the final cut.

Deadpool and Wolverinefeatured several classic Marvel characters from films that pre-date the MCU. The most notable of theDeadpool and Wolverinecameoswere Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes' Blade, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. Fans were thrilled with these characters' appearances, especially because they played a substantial role in a key battle against the underlings of Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova. Now, new concept art offers fans an alternate take on another significant fight in the film that features two more Marvel characters from the pre-MCU era.

Marvel Studios vis dev supervisorRodney FuentebellasharedDeadpool and Wolverineconcept art that seemingly depicts the showdown between the eponymous heroes, Garner’s Elektra, and Snipes' Blade against the Deadpool Corps, a team composed of Merc with the Mouth variants. The concept art alsoshows Ben Affleck’s Daredeviland Ghost Rider fighting alongside the heroes. Considering Ryan Reynolds and Cage reportedly discussed the latter reprising his Ghost Rider role, it’s reasonable to assume Fuentebella’s concept art depicts this version of the character. Fuentebella notes that this artwork was created in the early stages ofDeadpool and Wolverine, so much changed between then and the film’s completion, likely accounting for Daredevil and Ghost Rider’s absence.

SeveralDeadpool and Wolverinecameo rumors turned out to be incorrect. Most notable was the long-speculatedDeadpool and Wolverinecameo by Taylor Swift. The famous pop singer was rumored to cameo as either Lady Deadpool or the X-Men character Dazzler. However, Lady Deadpool was played by an unknown actress and voiced by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds' real-life wife. Dazzler never made an appearance inDeadpool and Wolverine. Additional rumored cameos that didn’t pan out include Jessica Alba’s Invisible Woman and James Marsden’s Cyclops.

Of course, this doesn’t mean those rumored cameos weren’t at least considered at one point. During a recent interview withIndieWire,Deadpool and Wolverineco-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed Affleck’s Daredevil was on the list of potential cameos. However, the scribes added that Affleck’s Daredevil didn’t make it into theDeadpool and Wolverinescripts, and the actor was never asked to appear in the film. So, it’s possible fans and scoopers caught wind of this list and, as the film’s co-writers noted, plans changed.

This is why fans should take rumors with a grain of salt. Something that may have been true at one point could change once cameras start rolling. Of course,Deadpool and Wolverinehas already grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, so the absence of any more Marvel cameos did not hurt the film financially. WhileDeadpool and Wolverinemay not affect the MCU much, fans clearly can’t get enough of the two titular heroes and the many heroes they encounter on their latest adventure.

Deadpool and Wolverineis now playing in theaters.
