The wait is finally over, asDeadpool & Wolverineis now gracing movie theaters and set to take over the box office. With a healthy 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, the only MCU movie of 2024 is poised to make a big impact. The movie finds Wade Wilson on an adventure through the void with Wolverine, where they must face off against the powerful and villainous Cassandra Nova. Along the way, the duo will have to overcome their differences to find their way home.
Deadpool & Wolverineis far different than any of the MCU movies that have come before it. Being the first R-rated Marvel Studios title means there is plenty of bloody violence and vulgarity. However, there is also a lot of genuine heart and affection for the characters that really comes through in the performances of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Of course, this being an MCU movie means there must be some post-credits scenes, but how many are there and what do they deliver to audiences?
How Many Post-Credits Scenes Does Deadpool & Wolverine Have?
Without giving anything away here, there are technically two post-credits scenes inDeadpool & Wolverine. While the first post-credits scene is not the typical sort of thing that fans are used to seeing, it does arrive after the credits start rolling, so it counts. Don’t expect the kinds of things that have been shown in places likeThe Marvelspost-credits scenesor evenAnt-Man and the Wasp’s post-credits scenes, as just like the rest of the movie,Deadpool & Wolverinedoes things a little bit differently. However, there is still one more scene at the very end of the credits that is more just for fun, but not entirely essential to stay for.
From here on out, this article contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as the movie’s post-credits scenes.
What Happens in the post-credits scenes of Deadpool & Wolverine?
Deadpool and his new pal Logan, after defeating Cassandra Nova, make a home for themselves in the original X-Men universe (the one where all Deadpool/X-Men/Wolverine movies took place). This may disappoint some viewers who were hoping to see the Merc with a Mouth wind up in the actual Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it’s a much happier ending in that Wade has finally found some meaning and gets to be surrounded by his loved ones, while Logan can finally forgive himself for his past misdeeds (and X-23 is there too!)
While there wasa big fan theory aboutDeadpool & Wolverine’s post-credits scene, it was way off. A little bit after the credits start rolling, the familiar chords of Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” come in, with a couple of flashes of pastX-Menmovies. Then, as the song fully begins, a behind-the-scenes montage plays, showing footage from filming the originalX-Menmovies, as well as other Fox Marvel movies likeFantastic FourandElektra(which makes sense consideringChris Evans appears as Johnny Stormand Jennifer Garner returns as Elektra, among all the other surprising cameos).
It’s a lot of fun to see the cast so much younger, having a great time making these movies. There is a touching moment when Hugh Jackman says in an interview that he hopes he can embody the character of Wolverine and make the fans happy. Similarly, there is an interview with Ryan Reynolds fromthe filming ofX-Men Origins: Wolverinewhere he discusses wanting to play Deadpool ever since seeing him in the comics. The entire montage is a touching ode to the early days of superhero cinema, as varied in quality as it was, and is a reminder of how far the genre has come since those early days when Kevin Feige was just an associate producer sneaking comics to the cast on the set ofX-Men.
If viewers stick around until the very end of the credits, they’ll be treated to Deadpool back at TVA headquarters, playing footage of when he and Wolverine are captured with Johnny Storm. Earlier in the movie, Deadpool claims that Johnny said a lot of very vulgar things about Cassandra Nova. While Johnny denies all of it, he still all of his skin ripped off before crumbling into a bloody pile of guts. However, the footage Deadpool plays shows Johnny actually saying everything he was accused of. It’s a lot of fun to hear all of the vulgarity coming out of the mouth ofthe actor who played Steve Rogers, and a fitting capper to a movie already chock-full of swearing and sexual references. However, this is not the most imperative post-credits scene, so anyone who’s been waiting to use the bathroom can feel free to leave.
