Summary

Destiny 2has had a lot of ups and downs with its loot over the years, going from the iconic Curse of Osiris meme of “two tokens and a blue” from farming the then hardest content in the game in the form of Heroic Events to full-blown weapon crafting where players decide every aspect of their guns. The chain of highs and lows continues throughout the years, and whileDestiny 2’s The Final Shape weaponsand armor are some of the best yet, they’re not immune to flaws. In fact, Exotic class items have been caught in the eye of the storm ever since their release.

Launched as a huge part of The Final Shape marketing appeal due to having two Exotic perks from existing armor pieces, Exotic class items fell flat on release. The first point of controversy came from their associated Exotic mission, Dual Destiny, which requires heavy communication between two players and can’t be run solo. On top of that,Destiny 2’s most coveted armor pieces each come with 64 possible rolls (meaning 192 total rolls counting all three classes), but no way for players to have bad luck protection or a knockout system. Still, Bungie has two possible solutions on top of what is coming with the game’s early August patch.

Right now, Bungie is reducing the drop chance of Exotic class items from random Pale Heart chests but increasing it from Overthrow chests, all while making the first weekly completion of Dual Destiny drop two Exotic class items instead of one.

Why Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Items Are Controversial

There has been a lot of fanfare aroundExotic class items inDestiny 2, and for good reason. With no loot protection of any kind, it’s extremely frustrating to go out and farm for these items when players may want one or two specific rolls. For any given roll, the probability of getting it is 1 in 64, and that will remain unchanged no matter how many copies of a given roll players have or how many Exotic class items they have gotten over time.

This can be quite infuriating, and while Bungie’s planned changes toOverthrow chestsand Dual Destiny may seem good, they may very well be scratching the surface and nothing more. The reduced drop chance from random Pale Heart chests is also not something the community at large is happy with, but it’s something the company is doing to fight macro users inDestiny 2who farm items while AFK.

How Destiny 2 Can Improve The Exotic Class Item Farm

Destiny 2’s Brave Weapons Offer a Perfect Blueprint For Improving Exotic Class Item Farming

A good way for Bungie to dramatically improve the experience of farming Exotic class items god rolls comes straight fromDestiny 2’s Brave Arsenal. These weapons, first introduced in the game’s past and then reprised with new rolls in Into The Light, can be obtained by completing the Onslaught activity in the Vanguard tab. Upon release, players could attune to specific Brave weapons to make them drop more frequently, and now the same feature is coming back with the early August patch even without the Hall of Champions. This same attunement feature to improve drop rates could be used for Exotic class items, this time improving the drop rates of a specific perk, but only one.

A Dual Destiny Master Mode Could Kill Two Birds With One Stone

This alone would greatly improve the chances of players getting their desired roll (or rolls), considering one of the most frustrating aspects of this grind is getting both perks right. However, there is yet another change that Bungie could make to ease the process in a similar fashion, and that’s to introduce either challenges in Dual Destiny or a Master mode that will grant double perks in at least one column of the Exotic class item, if not both.Destiny 2’s Grandmaster Nightfallsare a good example of this, with their associated Adept weapons getting multiple perks in one or more columns depending on the number of reputation resets with Zavala, essentially making the farm for a specific roll much more manageable.

IfDestiny 2were to make any of these two important changes, the Exotic class item grind would immediately become easier and more rewarding for players' time without removing the satisfaction of getting a god roll.God rolls inDestiny 2are a key aspect of loot, and since Exotic class items have been so controversial already, these changes would single-handedly improve their reputation.
