Summary
Destiny 2’s The Final Shape rolled around a little over one month ago, and it is currently sitting as the single best release for the franchise ever in terms of review score - and for good reason. The Final Shape delivered on every front, starting with a great story to end the 10-year Light and Darkness saga and including everything in between, from gameplay and sandbox improvements to new playstyles and Prismatic subclasses being introduced. The first-everDestiny 2Episode, Echoes, is a different kind of experiment for Bungie, and the company is making even more changes to its formula and gameplay starting next week with Act 2.
WhileAct 2 is makingDestiny 2’s strongest build even betterthanks to sniper rifle mods affecting the DPS prowess of Celestial Nighthawk Prismatic Hunters, Bungie is also reshaping seasonal activities and what they mean for the game. First introduced in Season of the Chosen,Destiny 2’s Battlegrounds have been a staple for a long time now, and Act is adding two new versions of this activity that further the story of the Vex, Nessus, Saint-14, and the Conductor. With Echoes' Act 1,Destiny 2’s Vex started appearing in their Compelled version, and now Act 2 is introducing Compelled Wyverns - except they’re even deadlier than ever before.
Destiny 2’s Wyverns Will Be Able to Dodge Attacks and Teleport to Players
Destiny 2’s Compelled Wyverns Could be Tormentors All Over Again
Destiny 2’s Wyvernsare a notoriously challenging enemy that first appeared on Europa in Beyond Light, and they have often wiped the floor with players in the equally infamous The Glassway Grandmaster Nightfall. Wyverns are capable of dealing immense damage in a short window of time, and their crit spot can be harder to hit than other Vex enemies due to their movement. However, Echoes Act 2 is making Wyverns even stronger by giving them two new abilities: teleportation and dodging.
Making Compelled Wyverns capable of dodging player attacks is in and of itself a very problematic change for high-end PvE activities, as these enemies are usually kept at bay with crowd control abilities or grenade launchers with the Disorienting Grenades perk. On top of that, Compelled Wyverns are also going to be able to teleport around and behind players, which is arguably the most dangerous aspect of this change, as they can then use their Warp Lance attack to potentially one-shot unaware Guardians.Destiny 2’s Echoes Episodealready had its fair share of controversies, and this change to Wyverns could prove hard to handle if the new Act 2 Battlegrounds are eventually moved up the ladder to GM status.
Destiny 2’s Grandmaster Nightfalls Are About to Become Harder Than Ever
In a sense,Destiny 2’s Grandmaster Nightfalls are ‘harder’ in The Final Shape due to the way their modifier works now. Prior to The Final Shape, players only needed to be at the seasonalPower Level cap inDestiny 2and have 5 levels of extra Power on the Seasonal Artifact to be GM-ready, but now, the Power Level cap is 2000 and GM Nightfalls are capped at 2020. What this means is that players need 15 levels on the Seasonal Artifact to get to the same point as pre-The Final Shape, but with 20 levels, GMs can be easier because the enemy level cap is 2040.
Wyverns have always wreaked havoc inDestiny 2’s GM Nightfalls, and having Compelled Wyverns capable of dodging player attacks and teleporting near them to then blast them with Warp Lance can dramatically change the results of a GM Nightfall run. Even in easier content likeDestiny 2’s Breach Executable activity, Compelled Wyverns can cause a lot of damage. Bungie’s philosophy with this change seems to be to make them a priority target, and now they most likely will be.
