However, it could be a misdirection, and she might not be a villain at all. Either way, her recurring role suggests she might not be sticking around for too long. There was no mention of Tanya Martin’s character in the original series, and Dexter Morgan was actually doing her former jobthroughout the original run, which raises questions over why she left her post.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Could Be The Villain In Dexter: Original Sin

Every season ofDexterintroduces avillain of the series, to go head-to-head with Dexter, and they usually end up on his famous kill table, in order to satisfyHarry’s code. The special guest star role inDexterandDexter: New Bloodwas more often than not given to the actor portraying the villain in that particular season, and seen as Sarah Michelle Gellar will beDexter: Original Sin’s special guest star, it could point to her being Dexter’s nemesis.

From season 3 onwards,Dexterfeatured a high profile actor in the special guest star role, and they were typically the villains of the season, except for Charlotte Rampling, who was the special guest star in season 8, and portrayed a good character called Evelyn Vogel, who was instrumental in forming Harry’s code. Each of these characters meet a grisly end, which has fans speculating thatSarah Michelle Gellar’s Tanya Martin could face a similar dark fate inDexter: Original Sin.

The fact that the majority of these special guest stars were playing villains also backs up the theory thatTanya Martin could be the despicable big bad at the heart ofDexter: Original Sin’s debut season. It would be an interesting choice to have Sarah Michelle Gellar portray the villain inDexter: Original Sin, as her most famous role was portraying the quintessential heroine, Buffy Summers inBuffy the Vampire Slayer. If Gellar was to play the villain, it would go against type and give the iconic actress the opportunity to play something completely different.

Even if Gellar doesn’t play the villain inDexter: Original Sin, she is likely to meet a brutal end, as special guest stars don’t usually stick around for multiple seasonsin the Dexter-verse. It is intriguing that Tanya Martin is Dexter’s boss in the prequel series, as this could be a source of tension between the characters. Also, the fact that Dexter was doing Tanya Martin’s job as CSI Chief throughout the original series, points towards her character leaving in an unceremonious way. Maybe Dexter caught on to some of Tanya’s dirty deeds and had to dispose of her, and a bi-product of that was replacing her as the CSI Chief, and progressing his own career.

Another option could be that Sarah Michelle Gellar has only signed on to feature in a recurring role, as her work schedule is simply too busy to commit to being a series regular onDexter: Original Sin.Also, Gellar is a huge star and wouldn’t be classed as a normal guest star, so she has been given the title of ‘Special Guest Star’, largely to help promote the show by featuring in the opening title sequence. Clyde Phillips and his team of writers may have some very big plans for Gellar’s character that could possibly stretch for multiple seasons, and this could see her eventually become a series regular.
