Dexter: Resurrection Could Follow The Prequel Series And Bring Back The Original Title Sequence With A Twist
Fans are set to see the return of the famous title sequence inDexter: Original Sin, so there’s a very good chance theDexterprequel could link up with the sequel series, with the new adventures of Dexter also featuring a version of the original title sequence.A return to this title sequence would be popular with many fans, who became accustomed to this introduction in all 96 episodes of the originalDexterseries, which ran between 2006-2013.
The creative team could bring the title sequence back in its original form, with no changes at all to the music and the morning routine that Dexter experienced. However, this would be a bit strange as it shows Dexter in his old life inthe iconic location of Miami, which will not be the case whenDexter: Resurrectiondebuts on Paramount + with Showtime in the summer of 2025.
Alternatively, the music could remain exactly the same, but the morning routine could be totally different to feature Dexter’s current circumstances. This option would make more sense, as it would keep certain aspects of what fans loved from the original title sequence, while introducing a new normal for Dexter’s routine inDexter: Resurrection.
The New Sequel Series Might Opt To Establish Itself As Its Own Thing And Feature A Brand New Title Sequence Like Dexter: New Blood Did
Dexter: New Bloodlaunched on Showtime in the fall of 2021, and it very much established itself as a sequel spin-off series, rather thanDexterseason 9. The sunny backdrop of Miami, Florida was replaced by the cold snap of Iron Lake in upstate New York, and significantly, the quirky title sequence from the originalDexterseries was replaced by a brand new slick introduction inDexter: New Blood, that showed fast-forward teasing shots of the key events of each episode. Also, the title of each episode would appear on-screen in vastly different creative ways. It was a clever way to establish Dexter in a very different world to the one he inhabited throughout the original series.
Dexter: Resurrectioncould choose to continue with this particular style of title sequence, or it could opt for something totally different. The sequel series will likely be a completely different show to the originalDexterseries andNew Blood, so it might make sense to move forward in a new direction.Dexter: Original Sinwill cater to legacy fans, with the reworking of the original title sequence, so this providesDexter: Resurrectionwith the opportunity to forge its own identity. If Dexter does escape after recovering from his injuries inDexter’s upcoming sequel, it would be great to see a title sequence that showed Dexter running from the authorities, with his morning routine completely disrupted.
In adiscussion on Redditabout theDextertitle sequences, Redditor, mr_ryno27 made a very good point about whyDexter: New Bloodprobably opted for something different.
I honestly think the reason they didn’t make a new one for New Blood is because they knew they couldn’t make one better than the original.
It would be very difficult to replicate the original title sequence, soDexter: Resurrectionwould probably be wise to do something different likeNew Blooddid. If there was a new sequence featuring a brand-new piece of music, it would always be compared to the original and that could affect the prospects ofDexter: Resurrection. Alternatively, the title sequence could be scrapped altogether in the sequel series in favor of a quick flash across the screen of the title card, and then straight into the action.
