Summary

Blizzard has temporarily disabled the unique power of The Umbracrux, an Ancestral Unique Dagger released inDiablo 4’s Season 5. The unique power interaction led to massive experience gains across various regions and scenarios inDiablo 4, with no common link between them.

The release ofDiablo 4’s Season 5 came with a host of new content and item reworks. Despite its length being shorter than the average season, the Season of Infernal Hordes looks to prepare players for thenew story content coming in Vessel of Hatred. The means to do so is the new game mode, which centers on fighting back the hordes of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred. The new game mode is meant to offset the lack of quests in Season 4, which was the only downside to the season that was widely praised by players.

Only a few days into the start of Season 5,Diablo’s Global Community Director Adam Fletcher tweeted that they’ve disabled the unique power on The Umbracrux. The reason listed as the cause for the item’s unique power to be temporarily disabled is reports of players having massive experience gains after some encounters. Theitem released inDiablo 4’s Season 5can still be found for future use, and even equipped, technically. But players will not be able to use its unique power to spawn a Shade Totem which redirects damage taken to enemies surrounding it.

Diablo 4 Temporarily Disables Item That Caused Massive Experience Gain

Players have reported experience gains that gave them upwards of 30 levels after a single encounter, with many becoming capable of using theDiablo 4Paragon Boardon characters whose levels were in the mid-20s just a few seconds prior. The issue was debated hotly among the fans as the encounters and regions had no common link between them, despite players trying to replicate and abuse the bug. The only thing tying the instance of massive experience gain was that it happened to rogues, narrowing the suspect down to a Rogue item.

It only took the developers a few hours after the initial wave of reports to identify the cause of the issue and start working on a fix. The current problem with item interaction, along with therecent looting ofDiablo 4’s Ring of Misfortune, previously shrouded in mystery, has shifted the focus of fans to items at the beginning of Season 5. This shift contrasts with the main attraction of the season, the activities in the Realm of Hatred, and the new currency called Burning Aether that players can earn there.
