Summary

BioWare has shared what the favorite classes and specializations are among the developers working onDragon Age: The Veilguard. While its marketing season started with some controversy, fans have slowly started to come around to BioWare’s vision forDragon Age: The Veilguard. The release date trailer was universally praised, the high-level combat made a positive impression on theDragon Agecommunity, andThe Veilguardis currently among the top twenty titles on PlayStation in terms of pre-order sales.

Thethree classes inDragon Age: The Veilguardare familiar to any veteran of the franchise: Warrior, Mage, and Rogue. However, as befits its Northern Thedas setting, the specializations available to Rook are completely fresh takes on certain archetypes. Instead of a Knight Enchanter or Arcane Warrior,The Veilguardpresents the Spellblade, an Antivan Crow’s idea of a melee spellcaster. Moreover, as Trick Weekes explained in an earlier post on Twitter, players can expect plenty of build variety, even within a single specialization.

While proper class balance is key, the variety of options has certainly created biases, even among the developers at BioWare. The results of how popular certain classes and specializations are inDragon Age: The Veilguardwere shared on Twitter, and to no one’s surprise, Rogue took the number one spot by a significant margin. The second place was claimed by the Mage, while Warrior came in last – the class that was recently featured inThe Veilguard’s high-level combat showcase.

In terms of specializations, the results reveal that BioWare found the newer archetypes more popular than theDragon Ageclassics. Spellblade, Slayer, and Veil Ranger all topped their respective categories, while Champion, Duelist, and Evoker were at the bottom. Though the Evoker provides a new take on elemental magic, something that has never had a dedicated specialization inDragon Age, it could be argued that it’s also the most classic example of a spellcaster. Thecompanions inDragon Age: The Veilguardwill largely conform to these specializations, but much like the squadmates inMass Effect 2, they are also expected to provide a unique flair of their own.

Therelease date forDragon Age: The Veilguardis set for June 05, 2025. Though players can already pre-order the upcoming BioWare title, the developers will be revealing more details about the game as it approaches its launch. Each companion will get their own dedicated day during the final week of August, and a developer Q&A will be held on Discord on Jul 27, 2025. While it remains to be seen ifThe Veilguardwill live up to the legacy of its predecessors, theDragon Agecommunity is certainly filled with optimism.
