Summary
BioWare has revealed that the script forDragon Age: The Veilguardcontains about 140,000 lines of recorded dialogue, surpassing the 88,000 lines ofDragon Age: Inquisition, which was already considered BioWare’s most verbose game to date. According to the developer, the cast has been working onDragon Age: The Veilguardfor five years, and recording the script takes a lot of time.
Dragon Age: The Veilguardbegan development shortly afterDragon Age: Inquisition’s release in 2014 and has gone through several reboots along the way. One of the original ideas was to include moremultiplayer elements inDragon Age: The Veilguard, but those were eventually scrapped. Now, with a release closer than ever, slated for fall 2024, the game is revealing new details about its gameplay, narrative, and universe, including the main cast of characters.
In an interview withGameRadar+, creative performance director Ashley Barlow mentioned thatDragon Age: The Veilguardfeatures 700 characters and 140,000 recorded lines of dialogue. Joining her was creative director John Epler, who emphasized how BioWare has spent a great deal of time ensuring the voice acting and narrative are top-notch and that they “wanted to make sure we got this one right.” Barlow added that theDragon Age: The Veilguardcastingbegan five years ago, suggesting the voice actors have been recording their lines for quite a while.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Script is Massive
Barlow mentioned that out of the 140,000 lines of dialogue, 60,000 are specifically for Rook, the protagonist.Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Rookwill have four voice actors in total, two for the character’s female voices and two for the male voices. In the game, Rook will have 15,000 unique lines of dialogue, quadrupling when considering the four variations. John Epler asserts thatDragon Age: The Veilguardis “the best version” aDragon Agegame could possibly be.
A script of this size suggests thatDragon Age: The Veilguardwill offer a rich and content-packed story. The RPG is a direct continuation ofDragon Age: Inquisition, and when it was first revealed, its title wasDragon Age: Dreadwolf.Dreadwolfreferred to the elven mage Solas, a companion inInquisition. However, BioWare announced a title change toDragon Age: The Veilguardthis year, shifting the spotlight from the villain to the protagonist.
Dragon Age: The Veilguardwill be released this fall for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Recently, BioWare confirmed thatDragon Age: The Veilguardis Steam Deck-verifiedand that no EA app will be needed to play it.
