BioWare has confirmed that Hawke, the main playable character inDragon Age 2who also appeared inDragon Age: Inquisition, will not be returning forDragon Age: The Veilguard.Dragon Agefans have been looking forward toDragon Age: The Veilguardfor years now, though it was previously known asDreadwolf. Information onDragon Age: The Veilguardhas been hard to come by in years past, but BioWare has now blown the door open on the highly-anticipated game.

BioWare dropped a new trailer forDragon Age: The Veilguardat the Xbox Games Showcase that revealedall seven of the game’s companions, followed by an extended gameplay presentation a couple of days later. While there are someDragon Agediehards who are not thrilled about the art direction or the shift to action-RPG combat, many are extremely excited aboutThe Veilguardand everything it’s bringing to the table. This includes the return of fan-favorite characters like Varric, though one of Varric’s closest friends won’t be making the jump toThe Veilguard.

As confirmed by BioWare, Hawke will not be inDragon Age: The Veilguard. Hawke was the customizable protagonist ofDragon Age 2. They returned inDragon Age: Inquisitionand played a key role in the story, especially during the quest “Here Lies the Abyss.” This quest sees the Inquisitor and their companions, plus Hawke and a Grey Warden, try to escape The Fade. Near the end of the quest, players have tochoose to leave Hawke or the Grey Warden behind, sacrificing them so the rest of the group can make it out alive.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Will Not Have Hawke

So, depending on what choices players made inDragon Age: Inquisition, Hawke can either be dead or alive inThe Veilguard. Regardless, Hawke will not be inDragon Age: The Veilguard, so it’s somewhat of a moot point. But even thoughDragon Age 2hero Hawkewon’t make an appearance inDragon Age: The Veilguard, there’s always the possibility that players will get an update on his whereabouts, assuming Hawke is alive in their version of the world.

Choices players made inDragon Age: Inquisitioncarry overintoDragon Age: The Veilguard, though it will be a bit more hands-on this time around. Instead of importing their save files,Dragon Age: The Veilguardplayers will simply get to pick and choose what happened in theirInquisitionplaythrough to set up the world ofVeilguard. They will also be able to recreate theirDragon Age: Inquisitioncharacter since the Inquisitor will indeed be appearing inVeilguardin some capacity.
