ADragon Age: The Veilguardfan points out that the floating fortress above Minrathous (as seen in its prologue/gameplay trailer) bears a striking resemblance to the pieced-together earthen construction of Corypheus inDragon Age: Inquisition. It’s entirely possible that this is just a coincidence, especially given the 10-year difference betweenInquisitionandDragon Age: The Veilguard, but it would be an odd coincidence if so.
DuringGame Rant’s preview ofDragon Age: The Veilguard, I noted how similar the prologues of each game were. Like Inquisition before it, Dragon Age: The Veilguard begins with players forcing their way through a weakened Veil and a horde of demons (with the addition of Venatori this time), including allies such as Varric Tethras and a powerful mage (Solas/Neve). Both games feature a boss battle with a Pride Demon in this section, with the main character later losing consciousness. These parallels feel intentional, and this depiction of Minrathous falls right into this territory too.
During the final mission ofDragon Age: Inquisition, “Doom Upon All The World,” players head to the Valley of Sacred Ashes for the final confrontation against Corypheus and his dragon. Corypheus will almost immediately use magic to bring the ground beneath the players' feet into the air, forming a floating rock structure that has a very similar structure to the floating fortress above Minrathous. Of course, fans would not have realized this before sinceDragon Age: Veilguard’s gameplay traileris the first in-game representation of Miranthous.
Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Corypheus Temporarily Remade Minrathous
Now, whether it means anything is still up in the air. It could be a coincidence, it could simply be becauseCorypheus is from Tevinterand would be familiar with this structure, or it could have some form of deeper meaning. Perhaps that has something to do with Tevinter at large, something to do with the Darkspawn, and/or something to do with The Black City in the Fade. If there’s some connection, especially between Minrathous, The Black City, and the Darkspawn/Elves/Arlathan, it’ll be exciting to see in-game.
Fans likely have a wait on their hand before any of this speculation bears fruit, if at all.Dragon Age: The Veilguardtaking place in Tevinterwill no doubt allow for story developments in each of these areas, although fans should not forget that they’ll also get to explore sections of The Anderfels, Antiva, and Rivain.
