Summary

Dragon Ballis no stranger to having magic in its world, especially since characters like Dende, Mr. Popo, and even Majin Buu have used magic to their advantage. However, in the manga, a new villain by the name of Moro was introduced, and his magical abilities were far beyond any opponent that Goku and Vegeta could defeat normally. His life absorption abilities were so great that during the first bout with Goku and Vegeta, Moro managed to absorb their energy and even incapacitate them the first time with little ease, beforethe villain even got an upgrade to his form as so customary inDragon Ball.

But what exactly do these powers do, aside from Life Absorption and growing stronger as a result? Magic is an underrepresented aspect of the world ofDragon Ball, so there is some lingering intrigue to examine in the case of Moro, the Planet Eater.

Dragon Ball - Moro’s Absorbing Life Energy

Moro’s Central Magic

How This Changes The Strategy

Beginning with one of the most overtly dangerous abilities of Moro, he has the ability to use Magic, which in turn allows him to absorb life energy from anywhere surrounding him. However, due to his expertise and ancient age, he is aptly called the Planet-Eater because he is able to devour the life energy of an entire planet just by being on it. Moro can then use this same power that he hasaccumulated into different effects. Many of these effects are a product of him using the life energy he has absorbed, and it isn’t difficult to see how these might be explosively more powerful than even a regular Ki Blast:

These abilities have been useful for the most part, although there is another scary aspect to this life absorption magic. With a good grip, Moro was shown to be able to even absorb the life energy of Vegeta and Goku in a near instant, leaving Goku and Vegeta nearly defeated if it weren’t for the fact that Moro had other things to do. The fact that Moro was the first opponent to absorb the energy that Goku and Vegeta needed for their transformations is what made him such a great threat at the time. If the Saiyans couldn’t reliablyrely on their energy to transform, then how would they be able to defeat Moro? However, this isn’t the end of Moro’s terrifying abilities.

Dragon Ball - Moro Absorbs The Earth

Absorption’s Terrifying Capabilities

How Moro Nearly Won

Aside from Moro’s ability to absorb and control life energy, he also has another ability very reminiscent to Super Buu’s absorption abilities. One that is terrifying once you take into account how easily Moro could do so with a grip. One such unfortunate victim became the catalyst for one of Moro’s later abilities, the ability to copy any technique once so long as he taps the back of the neck of his opponent once. Doing so has allowed Moro to copy classic beam attacks like the Special Beam Cannon, the Galick Gun, and even theForced Spirit Fission techniqueonce he saw it and fulfilled the requirements. This ability only ever gets more terrifying once Moro manages to briefly copy the ability of Autonomous Ultra Instinct from Meru. However, even then, once Goku briefly reached Mastered Ultra Instinct, Moro had to commit to his last resort.

That last resort being to absorb the entire planet earth, morphing his body drastically in the process, and forcing Goku and the Z-Fighters to come up with a plan before he self-destructs. While this plan seems to only be a last ditcheffort by Moro to defeat Goku in the same wayCell wanted to destroy the earth, the fact that Moro could even do so without nearly any effort and seeming with no way to defeat him so easily made him a far bigger threat than ever.Dragon Ballmanaged to give us a villain whose magical potential far surpasses any other villains, and in the process gave Goku and Vegeta a chance to grow as characters and as fighters in their own way.Dragon Ballwill continue to provide interesting villains in this regard, and there can only be more excitement for the future, if abilities like Moro’s become more common.
