Sure, it maintained classic RPG elements seen in plenty of other games, but its dynamic open world, emergent gameplay, andunique Pawn systemwere among its standout features. While that remains true today ofDragon’s Dogma 2, the first game didn’t have the shoulders of anything before it to ride in on, as it introduced itself to an audience entirely unfamiliar with its distinct characteristics and quirks. As a result,Dragon’s Dogmanever amounted to much more than a cult classic, even after its enhanced version,Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, was released a year later.
Thankfully, the success ofDragon’s Dogma 2has helped the franchise move on from the cult following garnered by the first game to embrace something a bit more mainstream — although there is still almost nothing like it on the market. With a much larger fan base this time around,the next game in theDragon’s Dogmaseriesshould theoretically find it much easier to grace the stage sooner rather than later, as there will now be more people waiting for it than there were even forDragon’s Dogma 2.
It’s far too soon to tell when a thirdDragon’s Dogmamight arrive, but, surely, it will be less than twelve years.

Another thing to consider that would likely help the nextDragon’s Dogmagame to arrive sooner than the last is thatDragon’s Dogma 2helped to hammer in the nail thatDragon’s Dogmaset in 2012. In short, sinceDragon’s Dogma 2essentially remade the first game, the nextDragon’s Dogmacan now benefit from those improvements. More improvements are still needed, but the next game in the series will have it much easier thanDragon’s Dogma 2did since the ground has been thoroughly plowed and paved for its arrival. Again, it’s impossible to know when a thirdDragon’s Dogmagame might launch, but there is little reason it wouldn’t be here sooner thanDragon’s Dogma 2came after the first game.
