Despite being the sequel to one of the clearest definitions of “cult classic,“Dragon’s Dogma 2has succeeded on a much more universal level than its predecessor ever managed to achieve. For all intents and purposes,Dragon’s Dogma 2is more a remake than a sequel, as it took the foundation laid by the first game and built a more accessible and quality adventure on top of it. It still has its hiccups here and there, but the overall experience is a vast improvement over its forerunner. Now, all that remains is the question of where a thirdDragon’s Dogmagame could improve things from here.
The nextDragon’s Dogmadoesn’t necessarily have a laundry list of things it could improve, but there are a few. The iconic Pawn system, for one, could still use some improvement, even after it received an extensive overhaul inDragon’s Dogma 2. The clunky combat and restrictive fast-travel system might also need a tweak or two, but those are divisive areas Capcom might not want to mess with. While there are negatives that could certainly use a tuneup, there are some positives that Capcom will still need to improve as well, if not just to keep things feeling fresh the next time around. However, one of its best features is already close to perfect, leaving very little wiggle room for any refinement in the nextDragon’s Dogmagame.

When it comes to character creators, not many games have been able to beat or even matchDragon’s Dogma’s. The first game allowed players to create one of the most personalized custom characters they’ve probably ever made in a video game, andDragon’s Dogma 2upped the ante by providing even deeper customization options than before. In fact, the amount of detail packed intoDragon’s Dogma 2’s character creationis so daunting that Capcom had to add more accessible methods for players who didn’t want to spend hours creating their characters.
Shortly beforeDragon’s Dogma 2’s release, Capcom allowed players to download the game’s character creator, just to allow them enough time to create a highly personalized character before the game launched. Doing so would allow them to jump right into the action on day one, as opposed to being stuck on the character creation screen while there’s a whole new world waiting to be explored. Players then shared their creations online, with some creating characters nearly identical to famous protagonists, likeGod of War’s KratosandStar Wars' Luke Skywalker. With such extensive options already available, it seems like a stretch to suggest it could still be improved, but it nonetheless may need to be.
The Next Dragon’s Dogma May Be Able to Improve Its Character Creator With a Couple of Added Features
There aren’t many ways the nextDragon’s Dogmacould improve its character creator, but it’s still possible. For starters, perhaps players could be allowed to create a character from an additional race.Dragon’s Dogma 2gave players the option of creating either a Human or a Beastren, and the next game in the series could perhaps add an Elf to that list. Additionally, with the advent of AI and its increasing impact on the gaming industry, it would be interesting to see whether Capcom could utilize it to allow players to create unique characters using basic prompts.
There is still no confirmation of whether there will be athirdDragon’s Dogmagame, but the chances are high. If it does eventually see the light of day, it will need to work hard to improve the character creator that its predecessor seems to have already perfected, as players would likely be highly disappointed to see it remain the same.
