The sound design is especially impressive in this trailer, adding depth to the combat with loud and echoing clashes of metal. Here’s a look at what’s been shown in the latestEnotria: The Last Songtrailer.
An Area Inspired By The Ancient Etruscans
The latestEnotria: The Last Songtrailer unveils a new region known as the Falesia Magna. According to developers, this particular area drew heavy inspiration from Etruscan civilization, which is seen in the art direction sprinkled throughout the ancient and architecturally impressive zone. Within the game world, Falesia Magna is similar to the empire of Rome, and designers did a fantastic job melding ancient Etruscan art and architecture with Roman influences, helping to create a fantastical vision that will see players fighting their way through expansive areas lined with massive stone columns, ornate statues, and rushing waterways.
Falesia Magna even includes its own impressive colosseum, complete with a decorated fighting pit. It’s here that players will meet one of the more imposing-looking bosses we’ve seen so far inEnotria: The Last Song, dubbed Giangurgolo. The creature is one of the most visually striking and well-designed bosses seen so far in Jyamma Games meticulously-crafted title.
A Boss Of Great Inspiration
Giangurgolo isn’t just eye candy, the creature itself is a labor of love that showcases just how much research and planning the team at Jyamma Games has put into the worldbuilding ofEnotria: The Last Song. This gargantuan and ravenous-looking creature fits perfectly with the Roman-like aesthetics of the Etruscan-themed area of Falesia Magna. Much like the fabled lions of the Roman Colosseum, the Giangurgolo stands before the Mask of Change as a creature of pure tenacity, instinct, and strength, promising to end the bloodline of the player character and not caring for the reasoning of why they are present within its domain.
The Giangurgolo is a mixture of multiple historical elements, starting first with its large and unique visage which is meant to be inspired by the Mask of the Comedy, while simultaneously drawing influence from the Chimera, a mythological beast of terrifying strength that mixes together the elements of a lion, goat, and snake. The Chimera of Arezzo, one of the greatest examples of Etruscan art, was used as a focal point to help the team piece together the Giangurgolo. The Chimera of Arezzo is a beautifully-crafted bronze statue that was said to have been created as early as 399 B.C. and currently resides in the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.
Even the beast’s name is inspired, as a fusion of words. The “gian” aspect is said to derive from Zanni, a prominent figure in commedia dell’arte theater. “Gurgolo” boasts a meaning of “wide mouth with an insatiable appetite,” painting a vivid picture of what players can expect when dealing with the Giangurgolo.
Overall,Enotria: The Last Songis shaping up to be one of the most immersive Souslike games ever crafted, with a developer that is intent on bringing many facets of Italian Folklore to life. The group at Jyamma Games has clearly put an immense amount of work into ensuring that their upcoming release isn’t just fun to play, but also a labor of love that is heavily inspired by the art and design of Italian history, as well as theater.
Enotria: The Last Song will be released September 19th, 2024 for PC viaSteamand the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S.
