Summary
2023 was an absolutely monumental year for video game releases. Within the span of just a few months, some of the biggest games of all time were released, from long-awaitedsequels likeZelda: Tears of the Kingdom,Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,Alan Wake 2, andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, to exciting new releases likeLies of P,Sea of Stars, andDredge.
Though it can’t quite live up to the lofty heights of last year, 2024 has still brought its fair share of great games, with titles likePalworldandHelldivers 2taking the world by storm,Prince of Persia: The Lost Crownbreathing new life into a long-dormant franchise, andTekken 8,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, andDragon’s Dogma 2all showcasing how far their respective franchises have come. But even with all that in mind, 2025 is already poised to blow 2024 out of the water when it comes to major video game releases.

Every Major Game Currently Confirmed for Release in 2025
Civilization 7
It’s been eight years sinceCivilization 6first hit PC, and fans can’t wait to get their hands on the next entry in the beloved strategy series. After a tentative announcement early last year,Civilization 7was properly announced during Summer Game Fest 2024, where it was confirmed the game will release in 2025. Fans will likely find out more about the game’s release window duringCivilization 7’s upcoming August Showcase.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
The sequel to Hideo Kojima’s first major solo project since his split from Konami back in 2015,Death Stranding 2: On the Beachwas initially announced during the2022 Game Awards. In January of this year, fans got their first proper look at the sequel, along with a confirmed release window of 2025.Death Stranding 2: On the Beachwill launch exclusively on PS5.
Doom: The Dark Ages
After months of speculation,Doom: The Dark Ageswas officially revealed duringXbox’s June Showcaseearlier this year. A prequel to the 2016 reboot and its sequel,Doom: The Dark Agessees players take control of a younger Doom Slayer in a medieval fantasy-inspired setting.Doom: The Dark Agesis currently slated for a 2025 release.
Fable
Another long-awaited title,Fablehas been in development for quite some time. Being developed byForza Horizondeveloper Playground Games,Fablelooks to reboot the well-known fantasy gaming series, and fans will finally be able to get their hands on it in 2025. The Verge’s Tom Warren has claimed thatFablecould release between October-December 2025, though that’s just speculation at this point.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Probably the most anticipated game not just on this list but of all time,Grand Theft Auto 6will finally be released in 2025, 12 years after its predecessor. Though only a general 2025 release window was originally given in its reveal trailer,Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnickconfirmed in an interview with IGN back in May thatGTA 6is planned for a Fall 2025 launch.
Little Nightmares 3
The third entry in the adorably dark horror series,Little Nightmares 3is currently set for a 2025 release. Though new series handlers Supermassive originally planned on releasingLittle Nightmares 3in 2024, the developer announced in May that it was delaying the game to 2025.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
One of the most ambitious Marvel games to date,Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydrawill see playerstake control of Captain America and Black Panther, along with two of their allies. In its most recent story trailer,Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydrawas given a 2025 release window.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
A sequel that fans have waited 17 years for,Metroid Prime 4: Beyondhas just been re-revealed. During the most recent Nintendo Direct,Metroid Prime 4: Beyondshowed off its first trailer, which confirmed that the game was launching in 2025. Naturally, some fans are a little worriedMetroid Prime 4could be delayed once again given its tumultuous history, but Nintendo usually only confirms a release date if it’s confident the game will actually release in that window.
Monster Hunter Wilds
The next mainline entry in the long-standing Capcom franchise,Monster Hunter Wildswas given a 2025 release window in its mostrecent Summer Game Festtrailer. Though that date hasn’t been officially narrowed down just yet, many fans believeMonster Hunter Wildscould release in Q1 2025 based on the franchise’s past release dates.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Announced back in February of this year,Pokemon Legends: Z-Awill take players back to the Kalos Region, first seen in 2013’sPokemon XandY. Its announcement trailer gavePokemon Legends: Z-Aa 2025 release window. Much likeMetroid Prime 4and any other major Nintendo game slated for 2025, it’s unclear ifPokemon Legendswill be coming tothe Nintendo Switch’s successoror just the original model.
South of Midnight
First announced during Xbox’s 2023 Showcase,South of Midnightis a promising third-person action-adventure game from Compulsion Games, now a first-party Microsoft studio. During its 2024 Xbox Showcase trailer,South of Midnightwas given a 2025 release date.
