Summary

The last big game in this series,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, had a ton of playable characters. Besides the four main Turtles, players could also take on the roles of Master Splinter, April O’Neil, and Casey Jones. DLC added morecharacters toTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revengetoo.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fateallows only the four main Turtles to be playable. It’s good for now, but hopefully, DLC will change this. On the plus side, they are all fun to play, with each having an advantage over the other. The co-op feature helps this roguelike sing unlike others out there. So, who should players main inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate?

4Raphael

The Attitude With An Aggressive Stab

Raphael is an aggressive character in most iterations of the I.P. from theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesmoviesto the cartoons. This aggression transmutes into great attack power inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate. The one downside is that his twin sais have a short reach. Even his Special will not extend the reach much, but it will execute a fine amount of damage into a single enemy. Both of Raphael’s Inspirations are aimed at critical hits.

One will boost the chance and attack damage of normal attacks while the other will just affect the chance of Specials getting a critical hit. It’s not bad as far as Inspirations go inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, but it isn’t good either. Besides having the second-best health in the game, Raphael’s true strength comes from his Tool called Turtle Line. Raphael will send out multiple sais which will grapple onto enemies and pull them toward him. It’s likeScorpion’s patented attack in theMortal Kombatgamesexcept that Raphael doesn’t scream, “Get over here!”

3Leonardo

A Born Leader With Blades True

Leonardo typically can go one of two ways for fans of theanimatedTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Kids could think he was too serious and bossy and walked away or they fell in love with his leader status and his two katanas. Either way, Leonardo is a bit of the same characteristically inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fatebut he is a good character to play regardless of his attitude. His twin swords have a decent reach and attack power. One of Leonardo’s Inspirations gives him the ability to use his Special twice before players need to recharge it.

This Special will send him flying through an enemy, like a swiftninja from an anime. It’s cool, but it doesn’t hit many targets. His other Inspiration will cause more damage after a combo is complete. Finally, his tool is very basic, Shurikens, which will lob a few at enemies. Overall, Leonardo has a good set of skills, but he has the lowest HP, making him fall behind others as the true leader of the pack.

2Michelangelo

The Party Dude With A Fast Speed

Michelangelo comes across as a goofball in most works and that’s no different inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fatewith his laissez-faire attitude. He’s the type of character that would bebest friends with everyone, but this party motif translates into high speed. Michelangelo may not have the toughest attacks, but he makes fast work with his nunchaku. One of Michelangelo’s Inspirations will grant him a chance to get Multi-Hit, which will double damage. His other Inspiration will boost area damage and basic damage.

His Special is a spin attack and with Michelangelo’s Inspirations intact, this cyclone of damage will hit a lot of enemies. If timed well, his Tool can boost his attack power even further. This Tool, Taunt, will cause foes in the area to take extra damage once and there is a chance they will be stunned for less than a second. The only downside to Michelangelo is that he has the third-best HP, but his speed and area of attack give Michelangelo more than a few advantages inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate.

Donatello selection screen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splintered Fate

1Donatello

Does Machines And Crowd Work Too

Donatello is often one of the better characters to choose in theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesvideo games. His bo staff gives him a superior reach and that is true in this game although he is a bit slower. His special attack inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fatespins him around in a circle, like Michelangelo’s, allowing players to deal with hordes easily. Hardened Shell is Donatello’s starting Tool and it damages enemies surrounding him although the damage is low. The better use of this Tool is to become invisible for a little less than two seconds.

Timing it right before a big boss attack would be a good idea. One of Donatello’s Inspirations will charge Tools 80% faster, meaning that players have more opportunities to block strong attacks using Hardened Shell. Along with Donatello’s high HP, he is the best Turtle for withstanding onslaughts. His other Turtle Power will heal 7 HP every time players enter a new room in the ever-growing dungeon system.
