Microsoft has recently revealed that theFalloutTV series has had a hugely positive impact on the franchise’s games, increasing the total playtime of the titles on Xbox Game Pass almost five times more than usual. TheFalloutTV show debuted back in Apriland was a major hit, considered both a commercial and critical success. The series had over 65 million viewers in 16 days and was nominated for the Emmy in categories such as Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor for Walton Goggins, and more. A second season forFallouthas already been confirmed and is likely to arrive early in 2026.
Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella revealed during the company’s Q4 earnings calls (via IGN) that theFalloutTV show increased the total hours ofFalloutgames played on Xbox Game Pass by nearly five times over the quarter. This includes games previously known to be positively affected by the TV series, such asFallout 4,76, andNew Vegas, but also PC-only titles such asFallout 1and2. It’s the first time that official information regarding the franchise’s play time on Xbox Game Pass has surfaced, as only Microsoft has the official numbers.
Fallout TV Show Boosted Franchise Playtime By Five Times
It was already known that theentireFalloutseries had a big player count boostafter the TV show’s release. Steam Charts showed that even lesser-known games likeFallout Tacticswere positively impacted, with newer games showing even bigger player count increases.
One of the games with the biggest impact wasFallout 76. A few days after the TV show’s debut,Fallout 76reached over one million players in a single day. This was a very impressive number, especially considering thatFallout 76was originally released in 2018 and that this period recorded the all-time player record on Steam for the game.
Now, it’s likely that theFalloutcraze will diminish, perhaps untilSeason 2 of theFalloutTV showis released or Bethesda finally announcesFallout 5. Not much is currently known about the next season of the show, with the exception that it may focus more on the city of New Vegas and that it will likely continue the plot started in season one.
