Summary
Following the release ofFinal Fantasy 14: Dawntrailand its graphical update, Square Enix stated its plans to implement further changes to the graphics following player feedback. TheFinal Fantasy 14development team responded to a thread on the game’s official forums that saw players deliberate the changes made to their characters inDawntrail.
Ahead ofDawntrail’s launch, Square Enix released a benchmark that gave players both a glimpse into how their characters would look compared toEndwalker, and to see if their Windows PCs could runFinal Fantasy 14’s fifth expansion without any issues. The benchmark also provided options for players to test out, such as AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS upscaling technologies, and different shadow and antialiasing selections. However, some players expressed their dissatisfaction with how their characters would look inDawntrail, resulting inSquare Enix releasing an updated benchmarkin late May to assuage some concerns.
Though Square Enix has stated it would continue to provide changes to the graphics on a gradual basis, the company kept a tight lip about it. However, aFinal Fantasy 14forum post by Community Team Member Aimetrotthanked players for their feedback so far aboutDawntrail’s graphics. In their reply to a long forum thread dedicated to garnering player feedback about player and environmental graphic changes, Aimetrot said that the development team had seen the feedback offered in the thread, which also included bug reports. Aimetrot said that a planned course of action would be revealed in late August, nearly one month afterthe release ofFinal Fantasy 14Patch 7.05. However, no further details were shared by the community team or development team about the graphical changes Square Enix would make.
Final Fantasy 14 Confirms More Dawntrail Graphic Changes On The Way
In various parts of the forum thread,Final Fantasy 14players offered some comparisons to how their characters looked inEndwalkerPatch 6.58 compared toDawntrailPatch 7.0 and 7.05. Someplayable races like the Viera and the Miqo’testill had some lingering graphical issues with ear and hair textures, while a host of races such as Elezen had a thin dividing line appear on the neck when viewed at certain angles.
