Summary
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthcontinues the tale of Cloud Strife and his companions' adventures to prevent Sephiroth’s plans to reshape the planet of Gaia into his twisted vision. As the second title of three in Square Enix’s modern remake trilogy of the 1997 JRPG classic,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwas highly praised for its presentation alongside the adaptations and subversions of some of the original’s impactful plot points and moments. Excitement and expectations are therefore understandably high forFinal FantasyRemakePart 3.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwas more expansivein nearly every way thanRemake, with a huge open world populated by tons of content and an engaging narrative. While this created an incredibly immersive game, it also had the possible side effect of being overwhelming in one way. The fact that players were eventually given a robust roster of characters to work with meant that some could end up lagging behind, muddying the otherwise compelling experience. With even more joining next,FF RemakePart 3 should look to encourage a more considered approach to making the best use of them.
Square has hinted that thewait forFinal Fantasy RemakePart 3may be shorter than between Part 1 andRebirth.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Has to Help Players Balance Party Members Smartly
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Larger Cast Makes Juggling Every Party Member Tricky
By the time players meetall the characters that join Cloud inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, they number seven total, and in franchise fashion, the options for each are extensive. As more are added to the mix, however, and fans are free to select their preferred main trio, the others are likely to be more of an afterthought. With the wide range of playstyles involved, it can also become an increasingly big ask to keep track of it all and ensure optimization.
Especially as some figures are added much later, and not getting them up to speed to keep pace with high-level enemies and areas often creates late-game hurdles. The problem could be particularly glaring during the long stretch ofRebirth’s climatic Sephiroth Reborn boss battle, which forces fans to fight a marathon across multiple stages using only certain characters for each portion, made more difficult if any weren’t up to par.
How Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 Could Streamline Handling Party Members
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthcontained portions where fans were locked into using specific party members. This was usually for narrative reasons, but it helped that they were organic situations that allowed players to also familiarize and catch up with the characters and their respective abilities. This could be streamlined togreat effect again inFF 7 RemakePart 3, since it will likely have the biggest pool of characters, and fans will need to incorporate at least two more members for the third and final leg of the journey.
Though they weren’t playable,Final Fantasy 7 RebirthintroducedVincent Valentine and Cid Highwindat the tail end of the plot, and they are expected to join in Part 3 (alongside any potential surprise ones). Thus, the complexity will be turned up a notch, and it would be another nice touch if Square considered making use of more sections of both story and gameplay that focus on alternating groups, subtly hinting to players that they should keep an eye on everyone’s skills in between leveling the main party.
One possible path to ease the burden would be forcharacter progression to carry over inFinal Fantasy Remake Part 3. Though this might be more complicated than it seems, and is not confirmed, perhaps a scaled-back version could still be used to maintain some previous progress. Nevertheless, separating party members into groups for key instances and/or battles in Part 3 would provide a good method of ensuring players stay equally invested in all, mechanically and narratively.
