Summary

Many players of Nexon’s new sci-fi looter shooterThe First Descendantare annoyed with a seemingly pointless confirmation screen it requires players to click through before receiving completed research items. The First Descendantjust recently added its 15th playable character in Luna, and also added a new Ultimate variant for one of the game’s most popular Descendants, Valby. Additionally, the big update included buffs to Freyna, Blaire, and Viessa, among other quality of life changes.

The First Descendantfeatures a vast array of important items that can only be obtained by performing research with Anais in Albion. These items vary from simpler parts that are needed to upgrade weapons and reactors, to parts that are required forunlocking entire playable Descendants. Each research item requires specific materials that can be found in the game’s various regions, as well as a hefty sum of gold. The process of performing research with Anais can also take some time, with full-blown Descendant research taking a whopping 16 hours before players can claim and use their new character.

It seems someFirst Descendantplayers are taking issue with a specific unavoidable screen presented to them every time they collect a completed research item. On Reddit, sendit2ash posted a screenshot of a confirmation screen that popped up when claiming a Crystallization Catalyst, an enhancement item that lets players change socket types on Descendants as well as on weapons. Whencollecting a new Descendant, this confirmation screen is also followed by a short animation of the new character unlocking, concluding with yet another confirmation prompt before exiting back to the research menu.

The First Descendant’s Research UI Frustrates Players When Claiming Completed Items

The First Descentantplayers are able to cancel research while it’s underway and are fully refunded all their spent materials and gold. Research that is completed, however, cannot be canceled or scrapped, and will sit in players' research menus until claimed. This being the case, it doesn’t make sense for a such a confirmation screen to exist when the only option players have is to either claim the completed item or leave it in the research menu indefinitely. Were it possible to cancel or scrap completed research, such a menu asking players to do so would be more practical. This doesn’t seem to be too big a hurdle, but considering how many itemshardcoreFirst Descendantplayersneed to be researching all the time, it’s easy to see how needing to click through such an unnecessary screen could become bothersome.

Since release, Nexon has been doing a solid job of cleaning up some of the game’s frustrating UI quirks. The First Descendanteven launched with a few great UI features, including a compendium of all weapons and Amorphous Materials, showing players where important research materials can be found and farmed, and even transparently displaying the drop percentages for items. Hopefully, Nexon is hearing the complaints ofThe First Descendant’s playerbaseregarding the research menu UI and will make a change at some point in the future.
