Five Nights at Freddy’s10th Anniversary Celebration kicked off earlier this week, promising fans a new release or special announcement every day from August 1 to Jun 03, 2025. Thus far, the franchise has released the following:
Having received the schedule months ago,Five Nights at Freddy’sfans knew that August 5 was set to include the reveal of a major collaboration. With the announcement thatFive Nights at Freddy’swill officially make its way toDead by Daylightin 2025,FNAF’s newest crossover is one that many have been looking forward to.
The franchise has had very little crossover with other projects, due to creator Scott Cawthon’s long-held belief that a project’s use ofFNAFelements must match the tone and nature of the original work.
To date, only one previously-released title,Creepy Castle, has officially gotten permission to use aFNAFcharacter in-game, with September 2024’sFunko Fusionset to become the first with a major brand. However, this week’s announcement overshadows both in a major way, as it delivers a crossover fans could once only dream of.
Earlier this week,Scott Cawthon sat down for an interviewwith Dawko on his YouTube channel, where the two discussed the wild rise ofFive Nights at Freddy’s, last year’s Blumhouse film, loose lore threads, and the series' future. Among these discussions, Cawthon touched on the lack of crossovers and collaborations betweenFNAFand other properties, drawing particular attention to the announcement planned for June 09, 2025.
Cawthon explained that he is very careful with collaborations since he wants to ensure that any serious crossover project maintains the integrity of the IP. He went on to share that he had many fun ideas for crossovers, but that many would constitute a mismatch and, therefore, fail to satisfy his criteria. Cawthon instructed fans to keep an eye out on Twitter/X on August 5th, as another company would be announcing the big collaboration. At 6:00 pm EST,the officialDead By DaylightTwitter/X accountposted a photo with no caption, revealing a collaboration betweenFive Nights at Freddy’sandDBDwould be happening in Summer 2025.
Five Nights at Freddy’sboasts plenty of eligible killers to join the asymmetrical multiplayer’s ranks. As theFNAFfranchise continued to grow, nearly every majorDBDannouncement was met with fans’ ecstatic hope thatFNAFwould be its next big crossover. The series even ranked as one of the top most-wanted collabs on anofficialDead by Daylightsurvey. Still, eachDBDupdate ended in disappointment forFNAFfans. With this week’s official reveal fromDead by Daylight, those years of disappointment come to an end.
It remains to be seen what theFNAFxDBDcrossover will entail, such as whether it will only be a cosmetic crossover and not one with a killer or survivor debut, though the developers couldn’t have picked a better time for it to happen. Not only isFive Nights at Freddy’scelebrating its 10th anniversary and fresh off the release of a major film, but the franchise’s most recent video game entry introduced the best option for aFNAFsurvivor inDead by Daylightyet.
Fans ofFNAFandDead by Daylightwill need to be patient until next Summer, though additional updates are sure to arrive before the collaboration update is released. With so many characters and eras to choose from, the officialFive Nights at Freddy’scrossover withDead by Daylightwill hopefully deliver an experience fans can relish for quite some time.
