A former mamager from Marvel who worked on the 2013Deadpoolgame by High Moon Studios and Activision recently disputed a rumor about the game’s budget, which claimed the game cost $100 million to produce and develop. Many gamers have been revisiting 2013’sDeadpool, after the title character’s third movie,Deadpool & Wolverine, premiered in theaters. The game was first released in 2013 for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, and later got a remaster on PS4 and Xbox One to tie-in with the 2016Deadpoolfilm, but has since been delisted.

Activision and High Moon Studio’sDeadpoolgamewas recently the subject of a retrospective video by Alex Webb, which went over its history and development, along with a brief review of the game. One of the things that was covered in the video was the game’s budget, with it allegedly having a budget of $100 million dollars, taken from various reports about the game. However, former Marvel manager Chris Baker, spoke out about this, wishing to put to rest this common misconception that has been perpetuated about the Merc With a Mouth’s video game.

Baker recently took to Twitter asking fans and other journalists to “squash” the rumor ofDeadpoolsupposedly costing $100 million to produce, with the first piece of evidence about this claim being an unsourced GameSpot article from 2015. According to Baker, $100 million would be “GTA-level” money, when its telling thatDeadpoolwas made on a much smaller budget in comparison. Baker speculates that the most likely reason why this figure is even floated around nowadays isDeadpool’s fourth-wall breaking jokethat shows the game’s supposed budget.

The Possible Origin Of Deadpool’s Supposed $100 Million Budget

The counter shows that the “budget” was a nine digit figure, but if one doesn’t look at it closely enough, there is a decimal point, with Baker theorizing that someone could assume it starts at $100 million and the rest being a part of the joke. The final counter ends at $7.5 million, which Baker believes is a more reasonable figure. While Baker doesn’t know the final figure, the delistedDeadpoolgame, while expensive to produce, likely didn’t cost $100 million to develop.

Alex Webb has since corrected the title of his video, along with a pinned comment that acknowledges how the budget’s actual figure has been heavily disputed, apologizing in the process for not researching this specific detail further. Regardless of the misconception, Chris Baker was excited aboutDeadpool and Wolverine’s premiere, and did his own retrospective onDeadpool’s appearances in video gamesand his role in producing them, which acknowledged the extreme financial figure.

WHERE TO PLAY

There are a few important things I need to say before you crack into my insanely sweet game. (Oof. Here we go again.) I’m a mercenary with an accelerated healing factor. I’ve been described as unstable, which is just plain coo-coo. (Wait, do sane people say coo-coo?) I’m gonna battle for the safety of humans and mutants. (And even mumans.) Be prepared for just about anything. (Holla!)
