Since 2005, theLEGO Star Warsfranchise has been a massive sensation. Across six different games, Traveller’s Tales has brought players on an exciting journey through almost everything thattheStar Warsfranchisehas to offer. But while that has all been great to see, because of the sheer size ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the future of this co-op franchise may be in a bit of a tough spot.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagagave players the definitive way to experience all nine mainStar Warsfilms. Not only did it LEGO-fy all nine core movies in the franchise, but it also gave players free rein over the series' most iconic planets. That made it the biggest LEGO game to date, with no otherStar Warstitle able to compare, and since it was so popular, there are likely plenty moreLEGO Star Warsgames to come. However, it may be impossible for those next games to break free fromThe Skywalker Saga’s shadow.

LEGO Star Wars Has a Lot to Prove Going Forward

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Set a High Standard for the Franchise

WhileTraveller’s Tales' LEGO gameshave been growing in size and content for years,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawas perhaps one of the biggest leaps the franchise has ever seen. The studio took the tried-and-true gameplay of the past and completely reinvented it for an experience unlike any other. Fans were given LEGO versions of all nine films, a massive galaxy to explore, 380 playable characters, a brand-new camera angle, whole new mechanics, and so much to discover. This meant that not only was it the definitiveStar Warsexperience, but it is also the largest LEGO game players have gotten yet.

Due to its massive success, there is a strong chance Traveller’s Tales has plans foreven moreLEGO Star Warsadventures. Even though the potential sounds exciting, it may also be hard for the next chapter to compare. The studio has already adapted the main series, so all that is left are the two spin-off films and the numerous TV shows. That may be fun for diehard fans, but the stories and content may not be able to compare to whatThe Skywalker Sagadelivered. Additionally, unless the game expands upon the open-world galaxy immensely, many players may find little reason to make the jump over.

There Are Still So Many Directions Traveller’s Tales Could Take the Series Next

Luckily, there are plenty of stories for Traveller’s Tales to adapt. The studio could makea sequel toLEGO Star Wars 3: The Clone Warsand finally give players an adaptation of the rest of that show. It could also craft an Age of the Empire title with the likes of theStar Wars Storyfilms,Andor,Obi-Wan Kenobi, andRebels, or turn toThe Mandalorian,Ahsoka, andThe Book of Bobato capitalize on the hype of the upcomingMandalorian and Grogufilm. And if none of that interests Traveller’s Tales, then it could even try its hand at an originalStar Warstale.

When the studio decides what story is worthy of a LEGO game, it needs to ensure thatit can compare toLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. That game already gives fans almost everything they want, which makes it hard to give them something more. Players will just have to wait and see how the studio plans to tackle that challenge, and based upon internal rumors and changes to the LEGO brand, it may be a while before they get anything.
