At the moment, all the damage in the game belongs to one attack type. According to the leak, the game’s code in the 5.0 beta has changed in a way that allows one attack to have two damage types. For example, if a combat move is considered both Normal Attack and Elemental Skill, it will have the potential to get enhanced by buffs that target these two attack types. The leak also mentioned that this change will affect one of theupcomingGenshin Impactcharacters, Mualani. Her Shaky Bites will be considered both Normal Attack and Nightsoul damage. Nightsoul Burst can be triggered when a character from Natlan deals elemental damage.
Many replies in the comment section express hope that this change will also affect older characters such as Jean or Diluc, which could make them viable again in thecurrentGenshin Impactmeta. However, it’s highly unlikely since HoYoverse does not seem to have any plans to rework any characters from the original lineup.
