Unsurprisingly, the open-world title was a huge success, selling more than 9.73 million copies by July 2022 and quickly becoming one of Sony’s fastest-selling original IPs ever. With achievements like that, it’s no wonderGhost of Tsushimawas then nominated for a host of awards that included Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020 and the 24th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. There’s a very good reason why Sucker Punch included a photo-mode inGhost of Tsushima,and that’s because at every turn, there is always some kind of beauty to stare at. From snow-capped mountains, lush forests, and poppy-laced valleys to shimmering lakes and quaint seaside villages,Ghost of Tsushima’sin-gamelocationsare a photographer’s dream world, but that isn’t where it has to stay, as Tsushima is also a real island crying out to be explored by enthusiasts. Taking on this challenge, one fan visited the Tsushima Archipelago in Japan to capture real-life photographs in a bid to recreate screenshots they had taken from the game.
Ghost of Tsushima Fan Visits The Game’s Real-Life Locations
In a post on Reddit, user GenericReditUserName talks about how they decided to visit the realGhost of Tsushimaisland in Japan for the summer after falling in love with the game. Touring around Tsushima’s archipelago, GenericRed took a series of real-life photos that included a Shinto Shrine, a long stone staircase, as well as the island’s rice fields, which are all found in-game, in the hopes that they could compare them with screenshot locations they had previously taken. As shown in the side-by-side comparison above, it’s safe to say that the real Tsushima, compared to the game’s in-game images, is strikingly similar.
GenericRed also talked about how they had picked up aGhost of Tsushimat-shirt while at the island’s visitor’s center. “I wore it every day on the island, quietly wondering how basic it would make me look and how the locals would react. They all reacted very positively to this because it’s their claim to fame and liked the attention they were getting.” GenericRed expressed. They also stated, sadly, thatfoxes don’t actually exist in Tsushima, but they did spot some bears.
In May this year,Ghost of Tsushimalaunched onto PC, which saw the critically acclaimed title shoot back up the charts in the US. Given that the game is over four years old now, it only goes to show how inviting its world is for players still to this day.
