Summary

Contrary to common sense,Valheimplayers can indeed build a chicken coop inside a Burial Chamber, as highlighted in a recent community post. WhileValheimhas a rather linear progression with its biomes, it’s an extremely wide sandbox in terms of what players can do as a whole. Building impressive longhouses and tending to one’s crops can be a satisfying way to break up the grind of resource gathering and clearing out caverns.

However, very few activities can be as rewarding as taming animals inValheim. While grueling and time-consuming, having tamed animals near one’s base of operations provides a potentially inexhaustible source of meat, leather, and other important materials. For example, having a Lox farm can provide players with a convenient way to craft Lox Meat Pies, one of thebest mid-game dishes inValheim. Conversely, taming a 2-star Wolf can eventually snowball into leading a ferocious army against certain bosses such as Yagluth.

Defeating Yagluth inValheimunlocks the purchase of an egg from Haldor for 1500 coins. When placed close to a heat source and under a roof, the egg will hatch into a chicken after 30 minutes – though it can also be used in Cauldron recipes on its own. However, given that players can place a heat source inside Burial Chambers found in Black Forests, Medium-List-4742 attempted to create their own chicken coop inside the dungeon itself. Not only does the method work, but the hatched chickens safely grow into hens, protected from any monster raids.

How to Raise Chickens in a Valheim Dungeon

While the idea of building a chicken coop in an instance that can’t be invaded sounds appealing, there is one important factor to consider.Setting a fire inValheimproduces smoke, and unless that smoke is funneled away effectively, one of two things can occur: the heat source will go out, or the smoke will kill the player. Though Burial Chambers are adequate for housing chickens, a Troll Cave is arguably an even better solution due to the height of its ceiling.

It should be noted that players cannot build in dungeons normally without usingValheimmods. However, certain objects can still be placed – such as signs, cooking stations, and even a ballista. Given the number of recipes that use Chicken Meat and Eggs, a dungeon coop protected from hostile enemies may be a worthwhile concept to consider for mostValheimplayers. Even if there is no suitable location near one’s base of operations,Valheimis a sandbox that encourages thinking with portals.
