Summary

The finale ofHouse of the Dragonseason 2 aired last night and ended with more build-up for the upcoming war. However, it seems fans were left underwhelmed with what they saw during the episode and expressed their disappointment on social media.

House of the Dragonis one of the biggest shows on the planet and millions of people tune in to watch the HBO series. Season 1 of the show was extremely successful and won several accolades. Subsequently, the second edition started on a promising note, delivering intense drama with thrilling sequences. However, as the season progressed, fans started complaining about certain aspects of the shows. Still, fans expected a satisfying finale that could have given them a glimpse into the war. But the makers decided to push all the action to Season 3, leaving fans massively underwhelmed with the finale.

Taking it to X, several fans slammed the makers ofHouse of the Dragonfor giving them an underwhelming finale and compared it to the final episode of Game of Thrones season 8. Conversely, some fans criticized the finale’s writing, claiming that it lacked any clear purpose or motive. One of the fans wrote, “House of the Dragon season 2successfully replacing GOT season 8 as the most disappointing and poorly executed season of television.” Meanwhile, another fan noted, “Wait…THAT’S IT?! We don’t even get the start of the battle of gullet? We had to watch Cole and Alicent’s boring speeches??? We had to watch Rhaena abandon those babies in the name of a wild dragon and don’t even get to see her mount it?” On the other hand, one fan commented, “They really made us watch a mud fight instead of giving us a satisfying ending to this season of House of the Dragon.” Another fan wrote, “The series finale of House of the Dragon really just pissed me off. What tf happened to insane shit happening in the finale. Like where are the major character deaths? The plot twists? The curve balls? I’m sick of all this preparing for war shit. GO TO WAR ALREADY. Ugh.” Correspondingly, one fan stated, “Mixed feelings about the House of the Dragon finale. On one hand, it was one of my favorite episodes of the series so far. On the other hand, there’s been so much tension built up throughout the season that not releasing any of it for a 2+ year wait doesn’t really work for me.”

In the finaleepisode ofHouse of the Dragonseason 2,The Queen Who Ever Was, fans saw Rhaenyra leaving Daemon to defend her cause in the Riverlands. Subsequently, Rhaenyra returns to Dragonstone. There, she receives an unexpected midnight visit from Alicent. The two engage in a lengthy, intense conversation, and confront each other about their past grievances, including Alicent’s recent affair, which highlights her hypocrisy after years of condemning Rhaenyra for similar actions. During the conversation, Alicent admits that putting Aegon on the throne was a mistake. She believed she was following Viserys' wishes and trusted the men around her. Now, realizing that the system she supported was flawed, she wants to make things right. Alicent tells Rhaenyra about Aemond leaving the King’s Landing and stitches a plan to let Rhaenyra enter the kingdom so that she can take the throne. Even though Alicent told her about Aegon surrendering in front of the future queen, Rhaenyra made it clear that she would have to take his head to conquer the kingdom. The episode concludes with Alicent taking a leave from Dragonstone and Rhaenyra deciding to stay back because of the prophecy.

Although fans are excited about Season 3 and the war, they got pretty disappointed with how the makers decided to move ahead with the narrative. Apart from Episode 4,only one more episode has a rating of 9 or higher on IMDb. For fans, it was frustrating to see how the finale ended so casually and without any casualties. Of course, some could say that they didn’t need to see any dramatic action scenes in the finale, but that’s what fans have been accustomed to in theGame of Thronesuniverse. On the other hand, the idea of showing “war is about to happen” on several occasions frustrated fans beyond imagination and wanted to see some of it during the finale. Sadly, they would have to wait for Season 3 to see the epic action sequences.
