With its strange premise, seemingly insignificant impact, and shift in tone, fans tend to think little of its plot, especially when considering that it takes place between two fan-favorite arcs, Skypiea and Water 7.

Proponents of this theory believe that Long Ring Long Land is, in fact,the legendary Laugh Tale islandthat houses the One Piece treasure. It should be stated that no one other than the Roger Pirates know where this island is, so it is entirely possible that it may even be one that the characters have been to before, of which this specific island would be the perfect candidate.
The very first supporting idea here is, admittedly, a bit of a stretch, though it makes sense thematically. It is known that whoever finds the One Piece will be crowned the King of the Pirates. The reason this connects to Long Ring Long Land is due to the island’s unique traits, where it is submerged for most of the year, only for Aqua Laguna to reveal its true shape to the world. This shape looks surprisingly like a crown, perhaps symbolizing that this island holds the main key to becoming the King of the Pirates.
Another hint is mirrored in the journeys of the Straw Hats and the Roger Pirates. Just before Roger set out for the final island, which would later be known as Laugh Tale, Buggy fell ill from the ‘I’ll-die-if-I-go-to-that-island’ disease, preventing him and Shanks' from joining the rest of the crew. Coincidentally, the only other time this ‘disease’ was ever seen in the series was when the Straw Hats approached Long Ring Long Land andUsopp claimed he had it!
Moving on, perhaps the most damning evidence for this theory has to do with when the Straw Hats went there themselves. There, they met a resident of the island named Tonjit, who Luffy helped get down from the stilts. However, what’s weird about this is when Tonjit saw the crew, he somehow recognized them, welcoming them back to the island despite them never having met before. This was originally thought to be a throwaway line to show the Straw Hat’s confusion and Tonjit’s eccentric personality, but it definitely means more than is being let on, since Tonjit may be recognizing Luffy as either Joyboy or Roger!

Moreover, all the flora and fauna of the island are comically stretched out, similar to Luffy. Tonjit even admits that every resident of the island is completely and utterly free, and they always feel like this, mirroring Luffy as Gear 5/Nika, where he explains that it is the state in which he feels the most free. SinceDevil Fruit awakenings affect the environment, it is entirely possible that the residents of the island became free and stretched out after Joyboy initially awakened the Nika Fruit and hid the One Piece on the island 800 years ago!
Another thematic connection to be made here has to do with the shape of the land itself, where each of the 10 islands is shown to be stretched out and high up from the base where they’re all connected. This is very similar to Wano Country, which itself has massive walls around it that protect it from outside influence and even hide an Ancient Weapon under it. This may hint to how Long Ring Long Land may be hiding the One Piece.
Though nothing regarding this has yet been confirmed and is merely conjecture until any confirmation, Eiichiro Oda is a master of foreshadowing and subversion of expectations. In the race to the final island, it’s entirely possible thatJoyboy may have hidden the legendary treasurethat the entire world is after under a seemingly insignificant island from an arc that many fans of the series simply brush off to the side!
